Alan Quinlan and Luke Fitzgerald have been ruled out of Ireland's one-off Test against Australia on Saturday.

Back-row Quinlan (thigh) and centre Fitzgerald (ankle) have both been receiving intensive treatment but the game with the Wallabies in Melbourne will come too soon.

Neither player featured in Ireland's 21-11 defeat in New Zealand at the weekend and Stephen Ferris has already linked up with the squad in Australia as cover for Quinlan.

The Irish Rugby Union have confirmed they will not be calling up further cover for Fitzgerald.
