Yorkshire's attack bowled their side to the top of Division One of the LV County Championship as they turned things around to record a 40-run victory against Somerset at Taunton.
England seamer Matthew Hoggard and Tim Bresnan both claimed three wickets, with Adil Rashid and Steven Patterson taking two apiece as the hosts, chasing 323 to win, were dismissed for 282.
Somerset were well set at 242 for five after Ian Blackwell's rapid 64 but the departure of Craig Kieswetter (41) sparked the beginning of the end and when Zander de Bruyn was ninth out for 103 all hope disappeared.
Durham were defeated by just four runs at home to Hampshire.
Resuming on 185 for six, the hosts looked down and out at Chester-le-Street this morning when the ninth wicket fell on 232 - with Durham still 62 runs shy of their target.
Dale Benkenstein added just four to his overnight 46 before becoming one of Shane Bond's four victims, and Callum Thorp (nought) and Paul Wiseman (28) soon followed.
But Steve Harmison - with eight wickets to his name in the match - dug in for a gritty 36 not out alongside Mark Davies (19), who was last out with Durham agonisingly short of their target on 289 all out.
Lancashire's match at home to Nottinghamshire ended in a draw after the hosts failed to capitalise on reducing their opponents to 46 for three in pursuit of an unlikely 315 to win.
His side having declared on 234 for six, Lancashire's Dominic Cork then removed Will Jefferson, Mark Wagh and Samit Patel in quick succession but Chris Read (71 not out) played a captain's innings to save the visitors.
Kent's rain-affected game at home to Sussex petered out into a draw.
Murray Goodwin's 50 and Carl Hopkinson's 69 were the highlights of the visitors' 300 for eight declared - 50 behind - and Kent made 14 for one before an early finish was agreed.
New Division Two leaders Warwickshire left it late to secure a five-wicket win over Glamorgan, whose second-innings 355 following on left the visitors needing 183.
Ian Westwood (58) and Mike Powell (55) began the chase but it needed Jim Troughton (14no) to see them home with the clock ticking down.
Essex fell to the expected defeat at Lord's as a dominant Middlesex triumphed by an innings and 38 runs.
Resuming on 200 for four, 222 runs away from making the hosts bat again, Mark Pettini (75) and Ryan ten Doeschate (78) offered some hope but both departed this morning to put Middlesex within sight of victory.
Although Alex Tudor ended unbeaten on 47, Tim Murtagh (four for 83) made it 10 wickets for the match and Dirk Nannes claimed four for 75 as Essex were finally all out for 384.
Robert White hit an unbeaten 132 off 156 balls to lead Northamptonshire to a six-wicket victory over Gloucestershire.
Set 292 to win, White and Nicky Boje (59) did most of the work after Boje (four for 32) and David Lucas (five for 30) had bowled out the visitors for 142.
