Former French Open champion Ana Ivanovic has cut ties with coach Craig Kardon after working with him for only four months.

"I'd like to thank Craig for all his hard work," Ivanovic said. "He's a great guy and I enjoyed working with him."

The Serbian hired Kardon, a former coach of Martina Navratilova, Lindsay Davenport, Mary Pierce and Jennifer Capriati, in February but he has failed to halt her slide in form.

Twelve months after climbing to the top of the world rankings after winning her first Grand Slam title at Roland Garros, she dropped out of the top 10 this week and is now 13th.

She was beaten in the fourth round of this year's event which ended on Sunday.

Her management company said she would be trained on a part-time basis by her sponsor's elite coaching staff during the grasscourt season.

The set-up includes Sven Groeneveld, who helped her during the 2008 season.

  1. Crises of confidence are far more common than most players let on. A new coach may give her a renewed look at herself, new strategy and better results. It's worth a try! All the best Ana

  2. Ana needs to find a coach like Justine Henin had in Carlos he just made Justine play magic tennis all the time. She was number one for over a 100 weeks Ana was there for only a few weeks.
Hope her play picks up soon as the young guns are coming ie Vika dominikia Radwanska etc.
    Good luck Ana.

  5. Ivanovic's tennis is not down the the coach rather down to her lack in confidence, ever since she won French open she has not kicked on the pressure and all that attention got worse for her and has no coped and in turn her tennis has suffered. Its about finding the rgith balance and finding a way to cope because until that changes the tennis will continue to suffer, she also tends to panic a lot and wastes so much energy fisting pumping when its doesn't help her.
Her @#$% on those serves is all over the place, often strike the ball late no plan B if swating the ball is not working. She needs to stop doing adverts and just do tennis sort out the shot selection and know in her heart that she is better than some of the players and player with that abandment she used to have because hse is a great stirker of the ball but too me needs a lot more variation to her game, when to take the pace of when to come in and slice and to ahve a great body serve how to change things up when plan a is not working that too me makes a better player.

This is not the start of the end, as anna has never started to end. She is a one-slam wonder and she is blaming everyone and everything but herself. She is no match to Sharapova in any side, play, toughness, determination, beauty...

  7. I think that her coach miss to change Ana's defense playing. He should teach her to play defense better and how to turn over defense stroke into attack. He should help her to be mentally stronger for it is obvious she does not have confidence in herself, but he didn't. Results show she is at 13 place, she should not waste her time with him but to find some other coatch who will know how to improve her playing as Svetlana and Safina succeeded with their new coaches.

  8. Don`t know if this is a good decision.. should have wait after Wimbledon at least.. changes all the time are not good..
but she was playing almost at her level if you ask me.. Serve was better, strokes more confident,, better moving… I think she was on her way of improving..
.. yes she lost pretty early on RG.. lost from very good Azarenka, that played magnificent match, hitting hard with only 7 unforced errors..
But at the end Ana should know better…

  9. 18, are serious? the willims sisters always focussed on tennis is a joke, they have always said that tennis was 3rd on their priorities, had it been top i beleive serena would have won many more titles.

  11. she has to first get her mind back on tennis, and not be sidetracked by other things, such as modelling. she revealed she was hoping to buy a WTA tournament for Belgrade just like Novak. all these things are distractions, and truly great players like the Williams and Henin, were always focused on tennis only, and that is why they accomplished so much. i think this was a mistake, for Kardon has much experience coaching at the top level. but nevertheless, i have faith in Ana. she is still young, and can get back to her best.

Ana and JJ are so yesterday,Sveta is the girl of the moment .Ana is not very strong mentally she was schooled by Azarenka in the fourth round.
The tour has young strong players in Wozniacki,Azarenka,Cibulkova nearly double bagelled pova. There is a group of young strong players in their teens who are going to take over from the Williams when they retire and its not Safina or THE SERBIANS.
