Premier League - Berbatov vows to stay at United

Eurosport - Tue, 09 Jun 09:04:00 2009

Dimitar Berbatov's agent has said the striker has no intention of quitting Manchester United this summer.

Berbatov did not make the impact most United fans were expecting following his club record £30.75 million arrival from Tottenham last summer.

"Despite speculation that he may leave, I want to declare that Dimitar will play at Manchester United next season," Emil Dantchev told Dnevnik.

The Bulgarian was left out of Alex Ferguson's starting line-up for a series of key games at the end of last season, including the Champions League final, and failed to have any impact when he was introduced as a substitute against Barcelona.

It led to increased speculation Ferguson might look to cut his losses on Berbatov and accept, like Juan Sebastian Veron, the player's economical style was not in keeping with the rest of United's make-up.

However, Berbatov intends to remain a Red Devil, with Dantchev confirming his commitment to the Old Trafford cause.

"There is no desire from the management for any separation," he added. "He will stay and we hope that he will win what he missed out on this year."

If Berbatov is set to stay, it looks increasingly likely Carlos Tevez (pictured left with Berbatov) will be leaving, quite possibly for Manchester City.

United chief executive David Gill was intending to have one final go at talking the Tevez camp into accepting their offer for a player, whose two-year loan has come to an end amid much disgruntlement from the Argentina star, who has been frustrated at a perceived lack of appearances.

However, speculation suggests Tevez has opted to join City, who have already signed Gareth Barry for £12m, although there has been no confirmation from any party.

  2. Stay at UNITED?? like you have a choice bone head, who would buy you anyway???? only an old fool would pay 30,000,000 to get you.
You are slow, dumb and not a man enough to fight for the ball, so stay at united to make their lives a living hell.

  5. Judge Berbatov after next season... You lot write him off like SAF doesn't know what he's doing. He was bought to hold the ball up and has an eye for goal and I don't think it's fair to critique him so soon. He will come good and all you 'fans' who slag him off now will be cheering his name months and years from now. Give him a chance boys... the worst thing that can happen is that he bangs more goals in than this season and his asking price goes up at bit coz if we sold him now we'd get about 15 mil for him. Not good business and sadly this is what the game has become, a business. Watch this space and may time prove me correct.

  13. i think berbarov is better than a lot of people think he does a lot by holding the ball i admit he has not scored the goals that we thought he would but this coming season will be better for him otherways it could be his last,i also would like tevez to stay but realistically is he really worth the price tag running and chasing does not do anything if nothing comes from it

  15. Berbatov was a good player at Spurs; his style suited him there. At United, he pales into insignifance as he's surrounded by better quality and hard working players like Tevez, Rooney, Parke and Scholes. Having said that, the squad is big enough to accommadate him at Old Trafford. He should be given another season to show his doubters what he can do for the club. I would keep Tevez at all costs as he's areal asset for the team.

  17. I say Get rid of berbatov and keep tevez, Berbatov is not ManU material, Tevez plays his heart Out in every game, and even with his talent, Ferguson doesn't play him half enaugh...
