Premier League - Berbatov vows to stay at United

Eurosport - Tue, 09 Jun 09:04:00 2009

Dimitar Berbatov's agent has said the striker has no intention of quitting Manchester United this summer.

FOOTBALL Manchester United strikers Carlos Tevez and Dimitar Berbatov celebrate scoring against Bolton on January 17. Both have been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer. - 0

Berbatov did not make the impact most United fans were expecting following his club record £30.75 million arrival from Tottenham last summer.

"Despite speculation that he may leave, I want to declare that Dimitar will play at Manchester United next season," Emil Dantchev told Dnevnik.

The Bulgarian was left out of Alex Ferguson's starting line-up for a series of key games at the end of last season, including the Champions League final, and failed to have any impact when he was introduced as a substitute against Barcelona.

It led to increased speculation Ferguson might look to cut his losses on Berbatov and accept, like Juan Sebastian Veron, the player's economical style was not in keeping with the rest of United's make-up.

However, Berbatov intends to remain a Red Devil, with Dantchev confirming his commitment to the Old Trafford cause.

"There is no desire from the management for any separation," he added. "He will stay and we hope that he will win what he missed out on this year."

If Berbatov is set to stay, it looks increasingly likely Carlos Tevez (pictured left with Berbatov) will be leaving, quite possibly for Manchester City.

United chief executive David Gill was intending to have one final go at talking the Tevez camp into accepting their offer for a player, whose two-year loan has come to an end amid much disgruntlement from the Argentina star, who has been frustrated at a perceived lack of appearances.

However, speculation suggests Tevez has opted to join City, who have already signed Gareth Barry for £12m, although there has been no confirmation from any party.

  3. lfc legend ? get real. Both sets of fans are massively supportive of their own team, yours is in the news for all the wrong reasons and any fan in the country has the right to comment on that fact. The trouble is with Loserfool fans they live in the past and keep on about the two wins this season as if it means something to the rest of us and im afraid it doesnt and most football fans are now fed up hearing about it.

  6. On the way to the CL final Barca did not demonstrate that they were in any way the "Best in the World" and they won the CL because Man Utd didnt play well enough on the night. Before the game the general consensus of opinion was that it would be a close classic final and Man Utd would edge it, that didnt happen. Same as two wins over us by Loserfool didnt entitle them to the EPL nor does it make them the "best team".

  7. If Barca go halfway across the world and win the world club cup, and then go on to win their league then they deserve the title of best in the world. Until that happens they just had a great season...and yes, face it, they were reaeeaaeaeaellly lucky to be in the final...

    Comment 70:
I don't think Barca paid the ref, just Blatter ensuring that it wasn't an all English final...just like the Chelsea-Liverpool quarter final made sure that it couldn't be an all English semi...

All that said, take nothing away from Barca, they did have a great season, and played some fabulous football at times.

  8. Please leave Berbatov alone. He is a special breed and needs to prove nothing to doubters. He brings stability up front when the likes of Rooney and Ronaldo are in a hurry. That we paid some good money does not mean he was supposed to score 30 goals in the first season. Next season the understanding between him and the other forwards will improve. Only Benitez will buy a player with so much and sell him soon after. Besides the guy loves United and some of us fans adore him too.

  16. get a life.
Any real fan can see that Barcelona are the best team in the world.
I don't need to wait for the world club championship or for Real to make another 10 signings to prove me otherwise

  17. i personally think that in Park, Anderson, Fletcher, Carrick and Hargreaves Fergie has got to many work horses in midfield.
The only creative player left is scholes and his time is almost up.
If they had 2 creative players in midfield it would give them so many more options.
Anderson who was bought as a replacement for scholes has turned into a more keane like player. Carrick is not overated he just lacks creative support.
i've been getting bored this season watching united play down one wing then the other.
we need to be able to hold it and play it through the middles of the park, just like Barcelona showed us.
Also, as good a record the defence has, is it just me or do they look @#$% scared every time they get attacked and get caught out of position to easy.
Maybe they forget that everynow and then we have to play a decent team that can actually get that far.

  18. 9 goals in 30 appearances in the league, 14 goals and 14 assists in 41 total.
Not bad for his first season, a very busy season, at the best club in the world.
By the way, United are still the best team in the world. If Barca manage to win the world club cup AND win their domestic league, they will take United's crown...
