Premier League - Transfer Talk: Jack Lampard

Eurosport - Wed, 09 Jul 22:08:00 2008

Not since Jack Bauer was released from a Chinese prison camp, offered up as human sacrifice to end a campaign of terrorist bombings, blew up an oil rig and escaped clinging to a helicopter has quite so much happened to one man in a single day.

2008 Chelsea Frank Lampard - 0

While the makers of 24 claim season six was entirely fictional, however, the riveting events surrounding Frank Lampard yesterday were as real as a plate of cockles gobbled down within earshot of the Bow Bells.

Here's how The Sun told it

9:30am - Rom KO's Lamps 5-year deal

1:15pm - Scolari insists he will stay

2:35pm - Frank says: No chance now

3:54pm - Inter slaps in new £8m bid

Day two is sure to be equally enthralling.

Elsewhere, AC Milan have behaved in a manner befitting of an amorous suitor in a Jane Austen novel, by writing a formal letter to Arsenal requesting permission to speak with Emmanuel Adebayor. An extract reads as follows:

"Dear Mr Wenger, It is a truth universally acknowledged that a team in possession of a good player must be in want of plentiful remuneration for said player in the happenstance a club with plentiful resources enquired..."

Alexander Hleb's charm offensive continues, with the news he counts Arsene Wenger as one of his heroes.

North London hatred quelled, expect his exit stage left shortly - with Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Internazionale and Real Madrid all interested.

Everton appear intent on upping their quota of Manchester United bench-warmers with the signature of Darren Fletcher. In a frivalous shopping spree to rival that of A-Rod's broken-hearted wife in Manhattan on Tuesday, Moyes is also after the prolific Darren Bent .

Speaking of over-rated strikers, Stoke and Hull are reportedly scrapping like feral dogs to secure the services of David Nugent from Portsmouth. At current market prices, based on his tally of zero Premier League goals last season, expect a fee of around £53million.

Yossi Benayoun is not going anywhere. More surprising is the fact he used the word "unequivocally" and even more surprising is the news he turned down bigger piles of cash to stay at Anfield. Miss Austen would have approved heartily.

Liverpool continue to sidle up imposingly to Gareth Barry , doing a passable impression of an aging bar queen using all her wiles to lure a naïve buck from his comfortable home.

Over at Paul Ince's new manor, the Guvnor is lining up Sebastian Larsson in a possible £4.5million deal. Apparently the Swede is basing his next move purely on cash, and if Blackburn flash enough of it, he'll leave Birmingham in a heartbeat. Now that's more like it.

To conclude, the obligatory Cristiano Ronaldo feature. According to the ever-reliable Daily Star, Real Madrid head honcho Ramon Calderon insists the deal is done, sparking an "angry response" from Manchester United.

It's not clear what this angry response was, but if Alex Ferguson's henchmen are on their game don't be surprised if Ronaldo awakes tomorrow morning to find the head of Nani on his pillow.

  2. Firstly, I'm and LFC fan and proud. And £8 Million for someone of Lamps quality is a joke, he's worth £50 million+ considering Aston Villa are holding out £18 mill for Gareth Barry. Franky is a Chelsea player through and through, I'm confident he's not going anywhere, he'll stay at Chelsea no matter the money if he's no lesser a man Gerrard was when he was placed in a similar position a few years back. Lampards staying in the prem as far as I can tell.

  11. the best solution to the Ronaldo soap from a Manchester United "F&%k you greedy portugues bast#ard" point of view would be to sell the @#$% to Barcelona, pi&sing off in one swoop Ronaldo himself, Calderon and of course who can forget Ronaldo's mummy and her dreams for her son. sorted. Not sure if a player can be sold against his will(?)but wouldn't that be poetic justice?? the barcelona fans would never take to him given the fact that he has expressed his undying love for their biggest rivals and the Madrid fans would see him as a modern day pariah for signing for the Catalan's. excellent.

  13. I've got a plan! Sell Ronaldo. Get Snjeider from Real as part of the deal. With the cash United get, buy Klass Jan Huntelaar, David Villa or Lionel Messi. Sorted. Messi is/will be better than Ronaldo anyway.

  15. Hehehe cannot belive it! So many comments about Ronaldo....I am even jealous... the guy is famous!
anyways...about Lampard...I think he shouldnt leave! As a Chelsea fan...personally, think that he is one of those representing the club! I just cant imagine Chelsea without Lampard! Its like...well..if Gerrard leaves Liverpool... I will feel little weird I suppose!
I think Lamps is a good midfielder and did a great job for Chelsea! Still..if goes he aint gonna be irreplacable!
    Chelsea 4 life! =)

  16. if u r not a ManU fan then don't talk about our players. Mind ur own backyard as it is bushy.ManU will continue to be the best in England and will win trophies again next season with or without Ronaldo. Sir Alex is ofcourse the most successful manager in the premier league. The number of trophies won apart, five premier league managers all passed through him, u ask them they will speak about him. Bravo 'SIR'.

  17. olla4ola you are a fool. im a liverpool fan and even i can say that ronaldo was clearly the worlds best player last year and the year befor that toin my opinion.you cant overate a player like him. most teams would @#$% a kidney for a player half as good.

  18. ronaldo has been one of the most talked about supposedly "transfer" this summer. a big whiner also, is hould say.. i'm a big ma u fan. very happy they did the double last season. but with the gossips and the news that has been coming out, it seems that ronaldo is not commited to man u, which is the biggest football club in the world, bigger than real madrid. i say ship out ronaldo and squeeze real madrid with all the pounds that they can get and buy way way better and more exciting strikers.

From henry, on Wed 9 Jul 5:54PM
  19. Don't blame Robaldo, its the english press you should blame. The way they rate players is unbelievable and ridiculous in england.During the last premiership season they keep shouting ronaldo name here and there,he's been over-rated and most of the english players aswell,Gareth, barry, lampard and some other.Stop over rating them, the best players in the world played in the euro 2008.
Also Manu is scared of losing Ron but they know how to chase so many other club's players. If tevez could make it to manu why can't ron plays where his heart is.
    Ron,pls go to Real.

  20. This comment goes to those claiming Ronaldo to be sub par. Im sure your hatred of Ronaldo has nothing to do with the fact that he probably tore your favorite team apart, but truth is, i would hardly call any player who scores 40 plus goals from the midfield position, wins EPL player of the year two years in a row (Award is chosen by coaches), wins the premiere league 2 years in a row, along with the Champions League and all relevant scoring titles, a sub par player.

Please people, get some knowledge of the game!!! Winning is everything in professional sports. Hate him all you want, he is by far the most dangerous player in the world. Any challegnes on this topic I welcome. And please dont bring up KAKA and Messi. Like I said, good players WIN! AC MILAN Sucked this year, and so did Barcelona, zero titles to both of them. SO please dont waste anymore time bashing a player that you clearly know to be the best!

    SUCK IT UP!!
