NEWPORT, Rhode Island (AFP) - American Sam Querrey breezed to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Spain's Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo in the first round of the rain-plagued 500,000 ATP Hall of Fame Tennis Championships.
Third seeded Querrey advanced on Wednesday, when rains and then a lack of light forced a number of matches to be suspended.
German sixth seed Philipp Petzschner also advanced by beating Horacio Zeballos of Argentina, 6-4, 6-7 (4/7), 6-2, and Nicolas Mahut, of France, beat American Amer Delic 6-4, 6-4.

Two time defending champ Fabrice Santoro of France will be among the players taking the court on Thursday to complete the round. He faces Italian Flavio Cipolla as their match was halted in the first set with the score tied 3-3.
Other matches which were started but halted are: seventh-seeded Kevin Kim leading France's Sebastien Grosjean 6-4 heading to the second set; Samuel Groth leads Ricardo Mello 7-5, 0-3.
