Newcastle defender Sebastien Bassong claims he is being tracked by Arsenal and a number of clubs in the Premier League and abroad.
The Frenchman has outlined his intention to leave the Magpies following their relegation from the top flight but he is yet to find another club.
He would prefer to stay in England rather than move countries and he claims Arsenal are one of the teams to have made an initial inquiry.
"I confirm that," he told the website of France Football magazine. "There has been an approach. But for the moment, there is nothing concrete."
Bassong added: "Foreign teams have made inquiries but as my priority is to stay in England, I haven't followed them through.
"Clearly it would be better if everything went quicker but I am not worried."

This lad is seriously beginning to get on my nerves with his whinging and whining; another full page spread in tonight's Chronicle - oh how my heart bleeds for him!!!!
The sooner he goes, the better!
To be fair to the lad, he was brought in by Keegan for his future potential, but due to the dismal performance of the more seasoned NUFC defenders, he was drafted in to do a job, and did it pretty well considering, so it's no suprise that other premiership teams are looking at him. Incidentally he's also one of lowest paid Newcastle players, so who could blame him for wanting away?
Ha, ha - Brucie-Boy for one Jack!
A central part of one of the worst defences last season, who would want him?
Arsenal will finish 5th this year because Arsene wenger has convinced the board that his philosophies will bring trophies, wot is it they say about cheap labour? Stay wenger, i want your face to be rubbed in with every defeat.
another greedy n'zogbia
the fog on the tyne is all mine all mine
the fog on the tyne is all mine
cmon
arent newcastle fans all crossdressers? Hutch you and your picture confirm that
I heard about the crossdressing too. Maybe he would fit in at Arsenal.
He omits the part about him being a "Weekend crossdresser", other players at the club are sick and tierd of having to cover up for him, each and every one to their own, however it must be annoying seeing him rolling around in "High heels and sussies" whilst the other are trying to concentrate! Perhaps thats the "Real reason" that we went down!
He`s good at talking and he`s also good at, mmm, he`s also..............nope can`t think of anything else.
Maybe he`ll follow N'Zogbia to that big club.
shaka,
have you actually seen him play?
Thought not!
Oh and cool and deadly, yes, please, please take Martins . . . NOW!
not good enough for the gunners
if arsenal need to get someone frome newcastel thye better get martin.....
Arsenal fans have launched an on-line campaign to get rid of Emmanuel Adebayor. In the style of Michael Owen's much-ridiculed brochure, the six-page document describes the Togo striker as "much better than Marlon Harewood and Mido put together" as well as having a "chance-to-goal ratio of 0.0045, bettered only by 453 players last years" (Daily Mirror
yawn... he's been saying this for months now... i'll eat my hat if he goes to Arsenal - this is exactly the same as the N'Zogbia story... and he ended up at Wigan!!
he @#$% man we don't need him man maybe to clean
the arsenal's toilets lol
Oh just hurry up and go will you!
Who would want to sign a player whos contribution last season was part of a team effort into premiership relegation? He's just looking for a fresh start so he can put his shame behind him whilst netting a healthier wage packet.
as long as the eedjots dont let him go for a bas"song" like what they die with shay?
