Nottingham Forest have returned with a third offer for Preston midfielder Paul McKenna.
Reds boss Billy Davies, who worked with the 31-year-old during his time in charge at Deepdale, revealed the bid was in the region of £750,000.
"Paul McKenna is a player I admire greatly and I believe he is the right age for this club because of his experience and what he has done," Davies told the Lancashire Evening Post.
"We have put in another improved offer to Preston, believed to be in the region of £750,000.
"Paul McKenna is a very fit man, a great professional and a great talker in the dressing room and on the pitch. He is an outstanding player and we will do all we can to bring him to Nottingham Forest because he is a player we need.
"Also, I think he probably needs a fresh move for his own career."

Alan: I agree. I was getting very depressed at the lack of activity. Presumably they were waiting to get our money before doing anything. I still want to see Gunter, Blackstock and a class central defender signed up.
I'm a bit worried that we don't have a shirt sponsor yet (or did I miss it). We need their cash and have to sell merchandise.
Still, looking forward to it. May even go to the pre-season friendlies (a first for me).
All in all it's looking very promising for next season as the signings that they have made so far appear too add greater depth and variation to the squad. I am hoping that they can get off to a good start at the beginning of next season and be nearer the top of the table than the bottom for most of the time. it would be really depressing to have to see them go through another season long struggle to avoid relegation like last season.
Fair enough Red. Truce OK. Actually can't wait for this season now weve signed a couple of decent players and games against Newcastle, Middlesborough, plus Derby and Leicester too. Hope we land Gunter and please let's get a central defender because without Breckin we look weak. Don't need any more thrashings this year thank you. So all in all I think we will do OK: somewhere between last play off place and mid table.
As for Davies - sorry I don't like his dour Scot approach. And I cannot forgive him for booting John Pemberton out. A true Forest man through thick and thin. So lets agree to disagree on that one. Cheers mate. Come on you Reds.
kev don,t want to fall out with you were all forest fans in this together i just think davies is the best manager this club as had for a long time you must agree on that how do you think we will do this season
"he needs to move to further his career" is not the proper channels. End of story. MATEY
he perhaps as gone through the proper channels matey don,t believe what you read in the papers don,t call the gaffer an @#$% hole and don,t call me a @#$%
redand.whites: Are you thick or what? My point is if you want to sign a player from another club you go through the proper channels. You make an offer, increase it until it is accepted, then negotiate with the player or his agent until the deal is done (subject to medical). You do not say "he needs to move for the benefit of his career" to unsettle him. That is unprofessional and unbusinesslike. Got it? Explained simply enough for you? Or maybe you would like me to draw pictures. It is people like you who make me ashamed to say that I come from Nottingham. Tw*t.
Paul McKenna has been a great player for PNE and doesnt owe PNE a thing! He has a fantastic family who are all Northenders and I for one would not like to see him leave!
but I can understand he might want to secure his financial future by a move to Forest.Every PNE team that has got to the play-offs has featured Paul and he has played differnt positions under Moysie and other managers!
forest fan matey i don,t think.if davies says we need him i believe him
Davies you are a disgrace. And I'm a Forest supporter. "He probably needs a fresh move for his own career" You don't do business like that. A***hole.
