Eurosport - Thu, 09 Jul 18:25:00 2009

Southampton have parted company with manager Mark Wotte following the club's takeover by Markus Liebherr.

2009 Southampton Mark Wotte - 0

A statement read: "We wish to recognise Mr Wotte's efforts during a difficult period for all associated with the club. We wish him well for the future.

"Our decision is part of a wider strategic plan being implemented to improve all aspects of the club's operations, both on and off the field. In keeping with this plan we can confirm that the search for a new manager has already begun.

"Our search will be conducted in a systematic and professional manner. We will find the right candidate, who will fulfil the criteria necessary to move the club forward."

Stewart Henderson has been placed in temporary charge of the first team.

  2. I feel sorry for Mark Wotte, but understand the new owner wanting his own team in charge. I also must say that I woulld think that supporters of a club with massive debts, an owner who wants out, and in the middle of a massive exodus of players, would have more important things to worry about what is happening at the SAINTS.

  4. i have sympathy for mark wotte he stuck by the club even when it looked like we were going out of existance but i dont think he was the man for the job it needs experience, i thought he might have gone back to the academy but thats not to be , so good luck to him and i sincerly hope he finds a suitable position very soon also nice to see davies is staying shame we had to lose some of the better players, but now the off field is sorted lets get behind the team and lift them back up

  5. Even the greatest manager in the world won't save this bunch of no hopers from going down (again). What a cheek to moan about 10 points deduction - it should have been at least 17 for lying and trying to put one over the FA. PLAY UP POMPEY

  7. Shame about Wotte, but he was part of Rupert's 'dutch plan' ... was always on the cards that he would go, whoever took over.

Didn't hear anyone complaining when Woodward went, another of Rupert's clever 'plans'.

Steve Coppell, Gordon Strachen or Dave Jones (right another of Rupert's wrongs) please.

  8. Well, well. Welcome back Mr Keegan, another hard working guy moves out from a club,in this instance to greet the return of a saviour. 10 points is a lot to make up in a season, just ask Leeds, and when the team is not at it's best there is only one thing to do...walk out!
The task is too big for Keegan and I don't think that he has the temerity to take on the challenge. If he does, it can only end in disaster.Poor Wotte, he was surrounded by doubt and turmoil but kept his head down and got on with the job, but as always happens a new broom....etc.
