The Philadelphia Flyers have signed All-Star defenseman Chris Pronger to a multi-year contract extension.
Pronger, 34, joined the Flyers from the Anaheim Ducks in a blockbuster multi-player trade at the NHL draft last month.
The league's Most Valuable Player in 2000 registered 11 goals, 37 assists and 48 points for the Ducks last season.
"I am very excited to be able to retire a Philadelphia Flyer and I am looking forward to many years with the Flyers logo on my chest," Pronger said.
"I think both parties wanted to get it handled in a timely fashion in order to move on and get things set up for future years down the line so that the Flyers could make moves either this year or next year, and know that they had me in place."
Pronger and forward Ryan Dingle were acquired by the Flyers from the Ducks in exchange for right wing Joffrey Lupul, defenseman Luca Sbisa, first-round picks in 2009 and 2010 and a conditional third-round pick.
