Tomas Rosicky hopes to be back in action for Arsenal during the opening weeks of the new campaign.
The Czech midfielder has endured a difficult spell out of the game since he last played for the Gunners almost 18 months ago, against Newcastle in the FA Cup in January 2008.
Speaking to Czech newspaper Sport, Rosicky said: "I think I will be back in the autumn."
A combination of niggling injuries in his hamstring and knee tendons, which proved difficult to isolate and treat with surgery, restricted Rosicky's rehabilitation programme.
The 28-year-old, signed from Borussia Dortmund in a £6.8million deal three years ago, resumed light training in May and has now rejoined the rest of the Arsenal first-team group as they prepare for the new campaign.
"According to my fitness coach Tony Colbert I could have been playing at the end of the (last) season as he thought my fitness was okay," added the winger.
"I think it was obvious from the training that I was ready to play, if not for 90 minutes.
"But the club decided not to play me. They saw that I was okay, but maybe they just did not want to take the gamble. Until I play in a league match I will not be able to tell what my chances are, but when it comes to fitness alone I am in better shape than when I came to Arsenal."
Rosicky is set to battle it out with Samir Nasri and Theo Walcott for a place on the Arsenal flank.
"I am missing the competition," the Czech midfielder added. "We have a strong team capable of moving mountains in all competitions."

In d absence of fabrigas last season how many goals did arsenal score that now makes him irrelevant or that the team will not miss him. If they wont , we fans love and will miss him
Am really happy 4 d commin back of Rosicky but am only sorry 4 them bcos Wenger is not thinking about how this guys is going be champions but all about is own pocket. Why sell experienced and well established players leaving the remaining players and fans to suffer.
Wenger must be the biggest fool ever if he should sell arsenal captain. When other clubs are buying all he can do is to sell is best players and they want be champion. No one is saying they should spend like real but Man u, Liver pol, Chelsea , Bar ca etc ARE NOT STUPID.
perry you div... its st mary le bows on cheapside that the bells need to be heard from not bow church.. you do the research you muppet... and The Arsenal are nearer to that church than west spam...
We miss you Rosicky! Welcome back.
Thats a great boost for Arsenal.. he was really missed last season

Liverpool are set to face a legal backlash after Rafa Benitez fired sixteen backroom staff.
The club sacked 10 Academy personnel last week and within the past few days, six-other long serving employees have been told to leave.
Liverpool have not given the staff any reasons however, it is believed that Benitez wants to bring in most of his former coaches at Valencia.
A source at Anfield said: “You’ve heard of the night of the long knives. This is more like two weeks of it and it may not be finished yet.
“Rafa wants a clean sweep, but some of the staff won’t go quietly and are taking legal advice. Some of them don’t even feel they’ve been told why they’re going.”
SACKED BACKROOM STAFF:
Gary Ablett - Reserve team manager (2 years)
Piet Hamburg - Academy director (2 years)
Hugh McAuley - Under 18 coach (20 years)

John Coburn - Academy physio (8 years)
Jan de Koning - Assistant academy director (2 years)

Lets hope so, quality players who I still think when he got injured was not replaced when we were challanging for the league big time!
thats good news
it'l be hard deciding who gets the starting position
but at least most of the team is back from injury
i hope arsenal can get some silverware next season
