Championship - John suffers 'sickening' injury

Eurosport - Sun, 09 Aug 11:09:00 2009

Neil Warnock admitted a sickening injury to Stern John had stripped the gloss from Crystal Palace's opening-day fightback in a 1-1 draw against Plymouth.

FOOTBALL Championship Southampton striker Stern John - 0

The striker, making his debut after a free transfer move from Southampton, suffered a suspected dislocated elbow after falling awkwardly in a 31st-minute challenge with Argyle goalkeeper Romain Larrieu.

John received five minutes of treatment on the field before being stretchered off and taken to a local hospital for x-rays. The Trinidadian is expected to be ruled out for several weeks.

Palace were already trailing after Kristzian Timar had struck from close range early on, but they rediscovered their composure and deservedly levelled midway through the second half when Alan Lee headed in Victor Moses' cross.

"Stern's having an x-ray, but it looks like the elbow has dislocated, which is obviously unfortunate," Warnock said.

"But that's the way football is, you have to get on with it. Considering what went on, I thought the players were terrific. We created 20 chances and we had to work very hard not to win the game."

  1. More motivational rubbish from Clown Warnock. Given the state of the team and the mix of youth and journeymen the team did well to create as many chances. So why not praise instead of saying we worked hard not to win the game. That sort of pithy remark undermines confidence but is to be expected from Warnock. Why can't he just shut up and focus on the team instead of his supposed image with the media. Egotistical clown.
