Spanish rider Alejandro Valverde won the Tour de Burgos after pulling away from overnight leader Tom Danielson over the closing stages in Spain.
Ezequiel Mosquera of the Xacobeo Galicia team won the 155km stage from Vilviestre del Pinar to Lagunas de Neila after launching an attack 5km from the finish, with Xavier Tondo edging Franesco Masciarelli (Acqua & Sapone) for second place on the stage.
In the race for the overall victory, American rider Danielson and Valverde were both locked in the peloton until 1km from the finish - but the Spaniard then attacked, managing to turn a five-second deficit into a 12-second overall victory.
There was more bad news for Danielson, as Tondo's fast finish up ahead edged him into second place in the general classification, leaving the American in third place just ahead of Mosquera.

Blood transfusion by "via codes". Dont make me laugh.
CONI themselves suspended Basso, because of the Puerto Operation in Spain (Ullrich is not italian XD); dont forget it.
And finally, the UCI let him race. They dont see any problem. Its only in italian territory.
Blood transfusion is doping too. I don’t follow you – CONI themselves suspended Basso; Spain has appeared more content to sweep the whole matter under the rug.
Where is the cera, where is the epo??????
He did not test positive during the Tour 2008.
Italians said that the blood in bag number 18 belongs to Valverde, linked Valverde to confiscated blood via codes (¿¡?).
It´s only a revenge for Basso by Italy CONI.
Valverde = doper. He should not be racing.
What happened to Pate? Did he stop for a burrito? Nice race for Danielson. Hopefully, he's completely back.
@ post 6. There is no way Tom D is underrated - he's been touted as the next big thing for 5 years. He seems a decent enough rider, but has definitely struggled to live up to the expectations. Can see him as a mountain domestique for Lance at RadioShack next year.
Tommy D is underated and without you know what I question the victory, valverde
better than diesel power ya I use it all CERA , EPO, BloodMonkey come and caught me..yopi yopi I still always Clean yopi yopi!!
Tom D. Over rated, under delivers.
Go CERA Go EPO Dam!! @#$%
Good ride from Tommy D hopefully his form is good at the Vuelta
Good riders ..but doesnt seems like was a good route..no mountains or stages to make a difference for overall riders like valverde or soler
