Ligue 1 - Father prosecuted over Cana move

Eurosport - Wed, 09 Sep 13:50:00 2009

The father of Sunderland captain Lorik Cana has been given a suspended prison term for fraud when his son moved from Paris Saint-Germain to Marseille.

FOOTBALL 2008-2009 Marseille - Cana - 0

Agim Cana was handed a one-year sentence, deferred by the Court of Marseille, who also fined him 100,000 euros after he was found guilty of conspiring to forge documents that allowed him to illegally receive an agent's commission during the summer of 2005.

The player's former agent Christophe Mongai was also convicted of the same offence and fined 50,000 euros, with his company made to pay an additional 20,000 euros.

Cana was however cleared of making death threats to Jean-Michel Moutier, who was PSG sporting director at the time, in order to facilitate the transfer.

It was alleged that Mongai illegally paid half of the commission earned from the move to Cana's father, with an invoice for the payment provided as evidence.

"The charge of making death threats was rejected out of hand," Cana's defence lawyer Olivier Martin told AFP. "However I do not understand how they can convict for fraud over an invoice.

"We have not ruled out an appeal."

The prosecution initially demanded 18-month and 12-month suspended sentences and fines of 130,000 euros and 230,000 euros for Cana and Mongai respectively.

They also wanted Mongai banned from working as an agent for three years.

Albania midfielder Cana (pictured) spent four seasons at Marseille before joining Sunderland this summer, where he was immediately named skipper.

read the date in thr prologue (thats the lead into the story, incase you didnt know) This all happend in 2005, by my arrogant reckoning and knowing everything That was 4 years ago. So please do explain how it is anything to do with SAFC and us having Skeletons in our cupboard (we keep silverware in our cupboards) not that your club has won any recently. Engage your brain before you start to speak or type.

  5. When Brucey was taken on, he constantly chirped on about "the warchest" and "shopping at harrods" and also how smug he felt about finally managing a big club (yes I laughed at this bit as well) Now the realisation has sunk in that he has to balance the books and the warchest was, in fact a myth perpetuated by spin doctor Quinn on the orders of the American Nazi fascist owner, Ellis Short. Spin doctor Quinn was employed by the wily old fox Short purely as a 6 foot 5 inch irish smokescreen between the bullsh1tting board and the fans. Being Irish, Quinny is thick enough to do Ellis Shorts bidding, even if it means lying to thousands of faithful mackems about funds available.

Conclusion to this brief report......for Brucey the penny seems to have dropped, Quinny wont be far behind, both will be gone by new year.

  8. Exactly , it has no bearing on SAFC at all as it occured long before he put pen to paper and signed for us. Ofcourse there are some who would love to see something happen to him. Why??because they are jealous and deluded.
