Sneijder remains Dutch doubt

Holland were on Tuesday still not certain Wesley Sneijder would be fit Wednesday's final World Cup qualifier with Scotland.

Inter Milan midfielder Sneijder was taken to hospital after suffering an ankle injury in Saturday's 3-0 friendly win over Japan. The problem was not as serious as first feared but the 25-year-old remains a doubt for Wednesday's Group Nine clash at Hampden.

Asked if Sneijder would be fit to play after his side touched down at Glasgow Airport, Holland assistant coach Frank de Boer said: "We don't know so we have to wait."

Sneijder trained on Monday but admitted he was unsure if he would be involved against Scotland.

De Boer and his players were keen to stress how seriously Holland would be taking the match, despite having already qualified for the World Cup.

"We try to see every game as a very important game, and also this one," De Boer said.

Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt insisted the match was just as important as his club's Champions League opener against Debrecen next week, adding: "For me, every game is important."

Defender Glenn Loovens, meanwhile, had no intention of taking it easy on his Celtic team-mates.

"We want to win every game, so it's going to be no different tomorrow," said the 25-year-old, who is looking forward to coming up against the likes of Scott Brown and Shaun Maloney.

"It's strange but nice as well. It gives something extra to the game."
