Tottenham midfielder David Bentley admits the Premier League's bottom club have become a laughing stock.
Spurs have claimed just two points from their first seven matches - their worst start to a season since 1912.
Manager Juande Ramos, having been in the job for just under a year, is under increasing pressure while questions are being asked of sporting director Damien Comolli's activity in the transfer market, allowing experienced strikers Dimitar Berbatov, Robbie Keane and Jermain Defoe to leave without finding suitable replacements.
"I know people are having a laugh at the fact we are bottom of the league at the moment but it's up to everyone at the club to stop the jokes," said Bentley.
"We're not happy with what has been happening. You cannot hide from the situation but what we need are a team of leaders who take responsibility. We have to grow as people.
"We have more than enough good players at Tottenham to get us out of this situation and I give my word that we will."
Bentley, who moved to White Hart Lane from Blackburn in the summer for £15million, does not regret the switch to north London and is backing Ramos to turn things around.
"I'm fully behind him, 100 per cent," the 24-year-old told The Sun.
"I still love being at Spurs and I don't regret joining the club for one second.
"I know I haven't been at my best but I haven't become a bad player in a fortnight. The manager believes in me."

What he says is true, spurs have enough good players not to be at the bottom of the epl.
You cant have that many good players and keep losing, its only a matter of time before they start wining again.
Good luck to the spurs i say and im a manu fan.

Define David Bentley- BIG HEAD BIG MOUTH BIG IDEAS BIG EMPTY SPACE BETWEEN THE EARS.Yet another overpaid pratt that will never be happy with his lot. Try 6 months on shiftwork in a factory where you only get a 20 minute break and they time you going to the bog. You people make me sick most of you would be in the nick if you wernt lucky enough to be able to kick a ball and in most cases not very well.So shut it you snivelling little git.
even a triangle has more points hehe
its good to be a villa fan
LOL Well done bentley You've fillay seen that you and your team are a joke! They should make you captian for your skills of observation that way you would get to start a match. But I think you should work on your spanish so you can really understand what Ramos is saying. Hate to break the news but he doesn't believe in you! Thats why you are on the bench!. Hmmm guess you didn't observe that! No captaincy for you then! Ramos may have said "I believe in you" but what he meant in spanish was "I can't believe we spend £15m on you, you'll be on the bench as long as i'm here you'd better believe that" Now I can see how all this can lost in translation afterall english is not as easy as it seems just as david beckham! LOL
hahahahahahahahaha spurs are s$%*!!!!!!!
good luck v the mighty orient next season!!!
poor tottenham they thought they were a top 4 team.
We all know bentleys a great player and we all know spurs will be midtable at the end of the season..have they ever finished the prem bottom 6? or even top 6?..probably not?
Every year Spurs fans think they'll be a top 4 side. GET OVER YOURSELVES! You're a bunch of dreamers. Never mind the country, you'll never be the best team in North London. Spurs fans don't even cry for their club cuz they're too tight - save water...
who ever is in charge of transfers at spurs clearly hasnt got a clue, last year they had for top strikers now y would anyone sell the 3 best strikers berbatov/kean and defoe and keep the shitest one Bent. i think who is in charge of transfers is an arsenal fan cos they're having a laugh. as for bently he's always been over reated jst another media player. if he was so good he would have made it at arsenal.
What goes around comes around
Apologies people, on my last post missed out the 'c' in pitch!!
Well, Bently, whats the next step? Mastermind, special subject the bleeding obviouse! Anyone that leaves the Arsenal don't do that well? Swallow that bitter pill!
Gazza
Why do Liverpool fans comment on Rafael Benitez and their American owners when the article relates to Spurs.
As a Chelsea fan, I think it is a shame that a team of Tottenham's history should have such a bad start to their season. I admit that I laugh at them being bottom of the league, but they won't stay there. I have little faith in a board of directors who will let their best players be sold for millions without replacing them. I agrre with Linda...good on you girl...she is one Spurs fan I would share a drink with!!!!! Well said. Come on Spurs.....sort it out
I understand that because of their present troubles, Tottenham Hotspur will be changing their name to Tottenham Nil.
It pains me it really does........ maybe the mickey mouse trophy sitting in the dusty cabinet needs a polish.
It's your own fault though. P1ssing about buying @#$% players for more than there worth. tara chucks!
And so it continues...spurs fans continue to abuse opposing teams cos they cannot be mature enough to admit their team is failing...(comment 24) shame you cannot take a more mature approach and acknowledge your 'team' is in trouble. Never mind, you will still be abusing if your relegated no doubt!!..Will probably be the manager who suffers as usual, shame cos Comolli and all the stuffed shirts are really to blame, but managers are always the scapegoats. I live with a spurs fan, but at least he's an honest one. He's sick of whats going on in N.17. As for Bentley, he was offloaded by Arsenal cos of his massive ego, was very disruptive in the dressing room. ( only had to witness the media frenzy he invited when he signed for Spurs and all the subsequent mouthing off he did...the word 'Karma' is coming to mind with regards Mr ' I love myself Bentley. Shame he does not do his talking on the pith eh?
Fair comments. We need to stay calm and think about the mid-long term rather than panicing about the current situation. Spurs WILL improve and climb the league (and hopefully do well in other competitions too). All managers need time, patience and backing to get things right and Spurs have more than enough qaulity to be a force again. We do need at least one more quality striker and midfielder though.
