Newcastle United have announced that vice-president Tony Jimenez has left the club.
The 43-year-old former agent (pictured, left) has handed in his resignation in order to pursue "other interests".
A statement on the club's official website read: "Newcastle United can today confirm that Tony Jimenez has left the club.
"Tony, who was appointed vice-president (player recruitment) in January, has made the decision in order to pursue other interests.
"Newcastle United thanks Tony for all his hard work and efforts and wishes him every success in the future."
Jimenez was appointed in January to the newly-created role of vice-president (player recruitment), and was charged by owner Mike Ashley with the task of using his extensive contacts within the game to assist executive director Dennis Wise and technical director Jeff Vetere (pictured, right) in bringing some of the best talent in world football to St James' Park.
However, the ambiguities of the new management structure led to tensions with then manager Kevin Keegan, who subsequently left the club in September, complaining that he had no say over transfer dealings.
Keegan is yet to be fully replaced, with former Wimbledon manager Joe Kinnear currently in charge of first-team affairs on an interim basis. While several consortia interested in buying the club have vowed to re-appoint Keegan, that will almost certainly not happen with the current set-up remaining at the club.
The controversial hierarchy has been labelled the 'Cockney Mafia' by the club's fans and blamed for Keegan's departure and the poor results that have followed. However, unlike his fellow London-born colleagues Ashley and Wise, Jimenez has mostly escaped any personal attacks from supporters and media alike.
Newcastle are currently third from bottom in the Premier League, with the 2-2 draw at Everton at the weekend bringing to an end a run of five straight defeats in all competitions.

joe is thinking of bringing carr back what a thought, carr was the worst player in the premieirship followed by that other headless chicken robbie savage, why dont they sign titearse bramble back,or better still sign all newcastle blue star team cant be any worse.
if liverpool just lived in the past they'd still be a mid-level team but instead they remeber the past, are proud of the past but know that the future is moving forward not trying to re-live that past. Newcastle, take note
You guys need to get over Keegan if you plan to move forward.Don't get me wrong, he's a great guy but living in the past only leads to missing out on the future, and I'm not saying don't get ride of the current management because they don't seem to be any good for the team and really should go.
u is next, get rid of old rat and get the new ones
WILL STRUGGLE ALL SEASON WITH HAS BEENS. DUFF GEREMI BUTT IN MIDFIELD.NOT ONE OF THEM CAN X A BALL AND SCHOOL BOY TACKLES.HURRY BACK MARTINS. JONAS.VIDUKA. AND AS TALK OF JK FETCHING BACK STEVEN CARR. GET BLOODY REAL JOE ABSOLUTE @#$%. TOP THREE SHOULD DO WELL IN CHAMPIONSHIP NEXT SEASON HA HA.
hello i am a derby county fan, i wish all the fans of newcastle supports say dennis wise we dont want you at newcastle football club, newcastle are very good teams hope you stay up for the pl it not nice to be at the bottom make me wonder what michael owen feeling it mush hurting him he do try his best for newcastle good luck hope you stay up
i am a newcastle fan and have nothing against joe,i think he is a brave man taking on the mess we currently have,we should all get behind him and give him all our support untill it's sorted out
Davaki2003 you make a very good point except for one thing. You say the Toon has needed someone for years to tell the players pull the proverbial fingers out.
Well they got two of them and the players or someone revolted.
Souness was brought in to bring dicipline and he was ran.
Big Sam was brought in because of his no nonsense approach.
And he was never given a chance.
If the managers face dont fit, player power kills him up there.
clear out all the dead wood in newcastle , the hangers on and they have a chance to stay up.
Best of luck
I'm a 'football' supporter & I follow Man.U. but that doesn't stop me thinking that this debacle shouldn't happen to ANY club, particularly one of the stature of Newcastle United. There HAS to be (don't know how) some sort of protection put in place to stop what seems to be nothing short of 'profiteering' I aggree with Sepp Blatter on this completely!
You Geordies need a reality check, Yes you might well have a 'massive' fan base and 'the best fans in the country' (ho -hum) but until you get some stability you will achieve nothing, Get behind Joe Kinnear, he is a good manager and will steady the ship (you might even stay up !!) He's a better man than Keegan who has it on his toes the first sign things aren't going his way.
GETTING THERE SLOW BUT SURE.GOOD RIDDANCE FOR NOWT HURRY UP KK GET BACK HOME FOR GEORDIES SAKE. MAKE SOME SORT OF STATEMENT TO MEDIA PLEASE.
glad to hear another member leaving newcastle, thats mean newcastle have the possibility to relegate this season with tottenham and stoke. newcastle 1 vs mancity 3 next weekend.
Even if there is a supermarket sweep at Newcastle and Keegan does come back what's to say that he wont up and leave again if the results dont happen for him?
Yet again Newcastle are in a relegation fight, rudderless and i fear the inevertable i have to say!!
YEA IT COULD BE DENNIS WISE NEXT,I AM GOING TO MAKE A BOLD STATEMENT AND SAY MA WILL KEEP THE CLUB FOR THE TIME BEING AND LET JK BECOME PERMANENT MANAGER SOME TIME AFTER THE NEW YEAR, HE SEEMS TO HAVE A KNACK OF HOW TO DEAL WITH PLAYERS THEY SEEM TO WANT TO PLAY FOR HIM, HE WAS THE BEST WHEELER AND DEALER IN THE BUSINESS IN HIS DAYS AT WIMBLEDDON,THE PREMIERSHIP HAS CHANGED I KNOW THAT BUT WITH THE BIG CREDIT CRUNCH THAT COULD AFFECT FOOTBALL I WOULD BE WILLING TO GIVE THE FELLA A CHANCE,THE TOON HAS NEEDED SOMEONE FOR YEARS TO TELL PLAYERS TO PULL THERE FINGERS OUT AND I BELIVE JK WOULD DO THIS IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS AND I THINK THEY WOULD PUT THERE HEART ON THE LINE FOR HIM AND THE CLUB.
Wise is really the one who needs to go. He'll do a better job at Milwall.
hi,
This is FANTASTIC NEWS!!!!
Let's hope the main culprit does likewise (no pun intended!)
I won't hold my breath though, especially as the little rat has never, as yet, shown he is a man of honour. Nevertheless, this is a step in the right direction - onwards and upwards.
if wise was to go would keegan come back
dennis wise's appointment was the precursor to much of this.! ashley should have played it simple. stick to the business and leave keegan to the football matters. why hire a manager then hire another man to tell the manager how to go about his work.!?!? wise is a power hungry pratt and at the 1st sign of trouble.. ashley should have sacked him and let kev get on with the job.!
sadly now the club might go down along with spurs from the looks of it.! here's hoping kinnear can help to find some confidence and stability. pick up points here and there and and get things on the field going right while the idiots in the boardroom kill each other.!
