Coulthard: Piquet should be punished

Formula One's ruling body should have punished Brazilian Nelson Piquet for the Renault race-fixing controversy, according to former driver David Coulthard.
"I think FIA should have punished Piquet too," the Times of India reported Coulthard as saying on Friday. "He was equally guilty as any other.
"It was really bad. Bad for F1, bad for the fans. The revelations have shaken many, including me."
The former McLaren and Red Bull driver, who retired last season, was speaking at a Red Bull promotional event in Mumbai.
"I don't know how anyone can crash an F1 car," he said. "All through my career I was trying to avoid a crash. I will be surprised if he gets an F1 drive again."
Piquet triggered one of Formula One's biggest scandals after being dropped by Renault in July when he told the governing body that he had been told to crash deliberately at last year's Singapore Grand Prix.
He said he had done so to help his Spanish team mate Fernando Alonso, who was cleared of any involvement in the conspiracy, to win the race.
Renault team boss Flavio Briatore was banned for life for his role in the affair while Renault were handed a suspended permanent ban. Piquet was given immunity in return for testifying.
Coulthard will drive the Red Bull race car on a new sea bridge in Mumbai on Sunday.

I know that this statement is above the intellectual capability of most Brits on this site to understand but here go's nevertheless. If Nelson Jr. had NOT been given immunity would he have talked? I don't think so. Then WE would NEVER have known the truth. Does this make DC and his ex fans happy? So what punishment does DC want to see imposed on Jr? A life ban? Jr, has already been given a life ban. He has punished himself, and why not reveal that Renault had willing cheats in the team? Jr. has done F1 and the rest of us a favour by revealing the truth. He is a dill and so are the other 2 conspirators. Would you have wished that Jr had remained silent? The same as scumbags Vodafone MucLaren Mercedes did over SPY GATE? Or would you rather know the truth? I would rather know the truth, so I'm glad that Jr talked. Only P O M ’ s would disagree with me on this one. How does Briatore and his mates become millionaires? By agreeing to this scandalous behaviour only shows that: Jr., Briatore and Symonds are IDIOTS. They got nothing less than they deserved. Briatore does not seem to have brains or decency to have become a millionaire? I understand that decency has nothing to do with financial success. Just look at the “gun” traders in this world? Piquet is as guilty as the rest of the team and should have been punished. As for Alonso, I don't think he is squeaky clean as he says he is.

I seem to remember Couthard deliberately letting Mika Hakkinen overtake him in the 1998 Australian GP to win the race, which created uproar at the time. He should think twice before deciding to voice the hypocritical establishment view.
Piquet is a rubbish driver and above all a hopeless human being!

Piquet endangered other drivers, other teams, and most of all the spectators. They paid to see F1, not some scandalous acting by Nelson Piquet Jr.
He should be punished severely. After all, it was 100% his decision whether not to crash.
Piquet should be banned from any form of motor racing for life. Any driver who is willing to put the lives of others at risk for a result, should not be at the wheel of a racing car.
Any racing series that takes him on is condoning his actions, and making the statement that they consider it acceptable.

f1 races, like this site, is getting very dull, it is like a funeral procession. nothing the happens in the two hours.
but what is the worse it is a rogues gallery going round in the circles. theives, cheats, liars and the criminally insane following each other for the eternity.
the most interesting thing in the last race was when the elderly gentleman in the crowd yawned and swallowed his false teeth.
f1 need spicing up friends, it needs to be more dangerous and the more exciting.
we need fans at the race track being killed by f1 cars landing on them and blowing up.
we need f1 drivers running around the pits on the fire.
we need the pit lane exploding and the mechanics getting blown into the air due to the cars smashing into the fuel rigs.
we need drivers caterpaulting out of cars at 250 kph after the head on collisions.
we need cars flipping over at 300kph down the main straight, whilst other cars smash into the debris and the disintegrate.
we want to see drivers on the podium covered in bandages with body pieces missing.
instead we get the boredom and then the liars, the cheat, and the theif - and that is just the mclaren men.

It is amazing to think that people think Alonso should also be punished for the Renault cheating.
I HATE Alonso with all my heart and might but as far as I am concerned, it has been proven beyond reasonable doubt that Alonso knew nothing about the plan to crash the car in order for him to win.
I do agree the win should have been taken away because yes it is a team sport and it was Renault that won the Singapore GP, but having said that since when did the FIA give out fair and clean judgements??
Yes Piquet the forever substandard driver should have been punished, but since he was the tool that lead to punishments to cheatio Briatore and fat cheat Symonds, the damage to his talentless career is more than enough.
