Wycombe have confirmed that manager Peter Taylor has left the League One club by mutual consent.
The former England U21 manager, 56, guided the Chairboys to promotion from League Two last season at the first attempt but has paid the price for a poor start to the season.
Club owner Steve Hayes said: "Peter is an honourable man and he knew that it was time to move on. He came to me and said he was very disappointed with the way the season has begun and understood that things had to change."
He added: "He leaves with our thanks and best wishes for the future and I want to place on record our gratitude for the excellent job he did for us last season in getting us promoted."
The search for a new manager at Adams Park will begin immediately, with head of youth development Richard Dobson taking caretaker charge.
Assistant manager Junior Lewis has also left the club.
Hayes is confident that the club - who boast the likes of Martin O'Neill, John Gregory and John Gorman as former managers - will continue to attract high calibre applicants.
He said: "Wycombe have a good reputation for appointing managers and I am sure that we will get plenty of high calibre applicants.
"Peter's successor will inherit an excellent squad of players and with 35 games still to play, we are confident that our league position will improve."
Wycombe have scored just nine goals in 11 league games and travel to Gillingham on Saturday languishing in 23rd place in the table.

Who is the worst manager, John Barnes or Tony Adams, both have dismal records. Please don't bring either to Wycombe, give the boys a chance!
Other names to throw in the 'selection hat', as speculation...
Mick Harford (available), Martin Allen (struggling to re-establish himself at Cheltenham Tn), Paul Ince (surely worth a go at MK Dons success), bring Gregory back (please no), Curbs (if legal battle with 'Hammers' allows) or what about giving Steve Browne his first Management role?
Good luck Mr. Chairman.

Good luck Mr. Chairman.
Bring back my old mucker, Wanderers/Brentford legend 'Terry Evans', he'd give it a blast.
Great mate of the Chairman (Sir Steve Hayes), perhaps he could even squeeze him for a 'few bob'for new players!
Then push those 'Choirboys' back up the League table.
If not, Waddock (of Aldershot) or Howe (of Bournemouth) look like quality lower league Managers. Otherwise Barnsey is available!
give him harry redw.nks job...
Taylor to replace Barnes maybe, now thats not a bad shout.
not john barns please
