Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton claims he has patched up his differences with Alan Shearer following their bust-up last season.
Shearer, then caretaker manager, was furious when Barton was sent off for a rash tackle at Liverpool in May and suspended for the final three games of the campaign, which ended in relegation.
Barton later met up with Shearer at a racecourse - when both had runners in the same race - and they agreed to put the past behind them. "We had a disagreement but we are both grown men and you get on with it. Nothing was said that anyone was going to lose sleep over," the 27-year-old told BBC Radio Five.
"With grown men in competitive sport there is going to be a clash of personalities.
"Emotions were running high and Alan was disappointed; no-one was more disappointed than I was that I had taken myself out of the equation by getting sent off stupidly.
"Things went on in the dressing room and it's well documented certain things were said.
"We've both seen each other since and we've both been very civil about it.
"I'm fine with it, I've got a lot of respect for Alan. I was never going to get in a war of words with him, I have too much respect for him."

no time for the little p.rick. has never done it for the toon even this season gives the ball away far to easy.to overrated.
BARTON WILL NOT WANT TO HAND IN HIS WHEELBARROW FULL OF FANS ££££££££££££.
Let's see what Barton does with all of the free time he is going to have with his injury (again) before we get carried away.
From what I'm hearing, Shearer doesn't consider their relationship to be anywhere near civil. Shearer doesn't truck with fools. The sooner the club can get rid of Barton the better. He's a bad influence and a relic of Shepherd's mismanagement.
Does this mean Moat is about to purchase the club and bring in Al as manager? Sounds like Barton is covering his bases here. A little bit of 'Please don't leave me out in the cold Alan as no other club will take me.' personally I want Houghton to stay in charge as we're doing better than expected. To be fair to Shearer I don't think he would take the role unless the club really needed him. God thats a lot of analysing from me for one day.
