Zab Judah got back to winning ways with a points win over Ernest 'Too Slick' Johnson in New York on Saturday night.
The former light-welterweight and welterweight world champion was cut badly after an accident clash of heads.
But he survived to run out a comfortable winner against the California-based Ohio native.
Judah (now 37-6) had also been cut badly when failing in his bid to take the vacant IBF welterweight title from Joshua Clottey last time out.
This appeared to be a relatively simple return to action, with Johnson (18-2) boasting just seven wins inside distance.
And it all looked pretty straightforward in the early stages as Zab established his jab and scored with some trademark big lefts.
By the end of the second round Johnson was cut over his right eye, and in the third Judah continued to dictate.
But Zab's night took a turn for the worse in a big way when cuts appeared above both of his eyes, with the gash over the right an awful wound resulting from a clash of heads.
Despite seeing his opponent cut badly, Johnson still failed to offer much in the way of aggression.
And although he didn't step up the pace in the second half of the fight, Judah always had too much for his opponent.
To confirm his superiority Judah wobbled Johnson with a good right in the final minute of the 10th and final round.
He claimed a unanimous decision, winning 99-91 on one card and 98-92 on the others.
