Chris Edwards became Britain's first super-flyweight champion in Wigan on Saturday night, taking a split decision against Jamie McDonnel.
Edwards a veteran fighter with 12 losses to his name, looked off the pace in the early rounds as his 21-year-old opponent started at a breakneck pace.
McDonnel scored with a series of ferocious combinations but as the bout progressed Edwards showed his experience
and took advantage of the youngster's exuberance to land some telling blows of his own.
Eventually, after 12 rounds, two of the judges scored Edwards ahead - 116-113 and 115-114 respectively - with McDonnel taking one card 116-113.
