FA Cup - Crewe through to third round

Eurosport - Tue, 09 Dec 15:42:00 2008

Crewe wrapped up an FA Cup victory over Carlisle with a devastating two-goal burst inside the opening 12 minutes to give them a 2-0 win.

FOOTBALL League One Crewe Alexandra - 0

A double from Shaun Miller earned Alex their first away win since April and a trip to Millwall in the Third Round.

The visitors led from the third minute when Miller cut in from the right to blast home an accurate low drive from 18 yards.

Carlisle were still reeling from that shock when Colin Daniels outstripped full-back Michael Liddle to stride clear on goal.

The advancing Howarth made a fine save to thwart Daniels but Miller coolly planted the rebound past the stranded keeper from 22 yards.

Crewe were rarely seen as an attacking force in the second period and despite a trio of long-range efforts from Michael Bridges, Carlisle were unable to break down a dogged rearguard.
