Humphries, Baadsvik win in France
Canadian pair Kaillie Humphries and Emily Baadsvik claimed FIBT World Cup Bobsleigh gold in the two-woman bobsleigh after a nerve-racking finish in La Plagne, France.
Humphries, 2010 Olympic champion, and brakewoman Baadsvik steered home with a combined time of 2:02.81 minutes ahead of Germany’s Cathleen Martini and Janine Tischer.
Martini upped the pressure on the Calgary-based duo, who led after the first run, by putting in the quickest time of the day, 1:01.14 minutes, on the second run but it was in vain.
Switzerland’s Fabienne Meyer and Hanne Schenk rounded off the top three with a combined time of 2:02.98 minutes.
Former Olympic champions Anja Schneiderheinze and Christin Senkel of Germany were dislodged from the bronze spot after a disappointing second run allowed the Swiss pair in.
Britain’s sole representatives Paula Walker and Rebekah Wilson, who won the World Junior Championships last season, finished tenth with a time of 2:04.05 minutes.
