The 26-year-old Argentina international Delgado, who can also play as a winger, has been in Lyon for the past few days completing contract negotiations and undertaking a medical after the clubs agreed a 10 million euro fee.

"This is a great club, a prestigious club that has lifted a lot of French titles," Delgado told Lyon's website. "I really want to give something to this team. Coming here is a dream come true for me."

Delgado, who started his career at Central in his homeland, has spent the last four seasons in Mexico but missed out on the 2006 World Cup due to injury.

Fred, meanwhile, has resigned himself to leaving Les Gones and is aiming to sort his future out as soon as possible following his return from Brazil, where he had overstayed his holiday period to attend to personal matters.

"I had personal trouble to sort out in Brazil," he told l'Equipe.

"I have just been through a divorce and I had to resolve issues concerning my daughter.

"If Lyon and myself receive a good proposition then I will go, and indeed I believe the best solution would be for me to leave.

"But so far, neither I nor the club has received any proposition, from PSG or any English clubs, even if PSG appeals to me. One thing is certain, if I have to leave Lyon it will only be a permanent transfer, not on loan.

"However, staying at Lyon is no problem at all."

Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed that Fred is likely to leave and explained the preference for a move to PSG.

"In the interest of French football we have to have a big club in Paris," he said.

"We need PSG to improve and for that they need a some star players.

"As vice-president of the [French league], and for the value of TV rights, I would prefer Fred to stay in France," he said.

"That's the reason we're ready to do what we can to help him secure a move to PSG, but we are not going to send him anywhere on loan."
