"No sensible manager would want the job, which comes loaded with totally unrealistic expectations. The club needs to grovel in abject humility to a talented manager, offering him a 'regardless of results' guarantee that the job is his, with a free hand and a large budget, for at least five years. What will actually happen, I suspect, is that they fill the vacancy with somebody who has no managerial experience, on the basis that he was born locally and used to play for the club. Anyone for relegation...?" Bath City FC supporter

"Newcastle need a manager with an ego bigger than Newcastle" bluegrit

"I have been a loyal Newcastle fan for donkeys years now but find it time now to vent what I think the problem is and will be at Newcastle United. One person "Alan Shearer"!!!!" weyayeman

"Don't forget people that Alex Fergusson nearly lost his job within his first year at reign at Man Utd and look what he went on to achieve...Sam has not been given enough time or support by the owners and board of NUFC. Shame he is a great manager... feel sorry for any NUFC fan Martin Jol is your next manager!!" Dave I

"Allardyce had a 5 year plan, he was given 8 months. Continually changing managers is unsettling for the players and no one can expect Newcastle to win titles because every manager has a different plan. Newcastle needs to stick to one manager and one plan if they want results." Pierre N

"All this talk of Shearer coming in, I'd love it one day but who knows what kind of manager he'll be. Big Sam is a manager any team would take and we have wasted our chance. Shocking!" Matt S

"I'm glad he's been fired, he is not good, just another over-rated British football coach. Football is an entertaining game, and that is something that most British coaches overlook by getting their teams to play a physical and horrible kick and rush rubbish." dudley00000000

"The talk of Ferguson, Wenger, Moyes, Hughes, etc, all being given enough time (years) - to get things in order seem to now be a long gone thing which has not been offered in the Premiership over the last year or two! Now, it is all to do with cash. Either for those who have bought out clubs totally, or have bought them with another person." sadtoon 46

"Newcastle will get nowhere until they give a manager time, I have little sympathy for the club, but a great deal for the fans although they too should give someone time. Is Shearer the answer?" d.pearcy07

"As with the England farce these fat-cats at the top are still there, and they will still be there to choose the next Manager, they don't walk do they even after several failed attempts??!! The Managers' should be left to manage, the players should be made to play and the Chairman should not listen to the media circus who start all this hype." sand dancer

"For God sakes not Redknapp or Jol." Neil s

"Is sacking Sam any worse than getting Alan Shearer to manage Newcastle. I don't think so." JOHN S
