Championship - Bowyer joins Birmingham on loan

Eurosport - Sat, 10 Jan 15:39:00 2009

Birmingham City have completed the loan signing of West Ham midfielder Lee Bowyer until the end of the season.

2007-2008 Premier League West Ham Lee Bowyer - 0

The 32-year-old will become Alex McLeish's fifth signing of the January transfer window after Keith Fahey, Robin Shroot, Scott Sinclair and Hameur Bouazza all joined the Championship side.

McLeish said: "Lee's a dynamic player and I want to bring a dynamic look back to the team.

"Roy Aitken, one of my assistants, has worked with him at Leeds and knows him as an attacking midfielder but he also knows that Lee can give a lot to the team as well."

Bowyer rejoined West Ham when he returned to the Boleyn Ground from Newcastle in June 2006 but so far this campaign has featured in only seven games for the Hammers, scoring one goal - in the club's 4-1 Carling Cup win over Macclesfield.

  1. another square peg in a round hole.do blues fans really think bowyer would have come to brum if he had the choice of a london club that would pay the wages blues would pay.and here lies the problem it is a team of mercenaries.the one thing you notice when blues play is the lack of passion for the shirt, you get the impression that a lot of them dont enjoy playing for blues and the lack of loyalty jumps out at you.

  9. To all you Brum fans don't judge a book by its cover, through all his time at Leeds I never saw him once put in less than 100* He is just the right kind of player to help you get out of The Championship, good luck!

  11. As a diehard Bluenose, I appreciate what Big Eck is trying for the dynamics of the side but cannot help feeling that this signing is a mistake. Bowyer is, without doubt, a player of questionable mental stability, who's reputation precedes him wherever he goes. He will be targeted by away fans, which will put pressure on him, and mistrusted by home fans, which puts pressure on the rest of the team. Why sign him, but let Quincy , who's got ten years over Bowyer, go back to Russia? I really hope you have a plan McLeish!

  15. How long will it take before he hits the headlines for the wrong reasons? Bowyer may be a skillful player but he "has issues". McLeish must be desperate!
