Niang helps OM to Nice victory

Sun 10 Feb, 11:00 PM

Mamadou Niang returned from the African Nations Cup to fire Marseille to victory at Nice - breaking the hosts' 20-game unbeaten home run.The Senegalese star struck after 25 minutes and former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse grabbed a second with 15 minutes remaining to break the home side's 13-match unbeaten league run and move OM up to fifth.

Nice had not lost in Ligue 1 since October and were undefeated at home in over a year, but they had no answer to Marseille's strike partnership at Stade du Ray, which had blitzed Caen 6-1 last time out without Niang.

Lens continued their return to good form in emphatic style with a thumping win at Caen.

Toifilou Maoulida scored for the visitors after just 16 seconds to set the tone for the rest of the game. Goals from Kader Mangane after 32 minutes and Loic Remy on 65 extended the lead.

Reynald Lemaitre pulled one back for the hosts three minutes after Lens' third, but a Nicolas Seube own goal sealed the rout 15 minutes from time.

In January, Lens were rooted to the bottom of Ligue 1, but a fine turnaround in results - capped off with this weekend's victory - means that Les Sang et Or have now climbed to a more respectable 13th place.
