Jim McInally remains under pressure after a last-gasp 2-1 home defeat by Clyde saw Morton remain in the Scottish First Division drop zone.Craig McKeown grabbed the stoppage-time winner for the Bully Wee shortly after Ruari MacLennan had cancelled out Chris Millar's 52nd-minute opener.
The reverse leaves Morton just five points clear of bottom side Stirling Albion after blowing the chance to overtake Clyde in the table.
Reports on Sunday claim McInally now faces an uncertain future at the Greenock club and he failed to appear for Saturday's post-match press conference.
His assistant, Martin Clark, faced the media instead and said: "I only want to talk about the match and have been asked to come in here in Jim's absence.
"The bottom line is that the results have not been good enough. Even getting a draw would have been a bad result.
"To lose two goals and the game is just unbelievable."
New Clyde boss John Brown was thrilled with the victory but warned: "We need to show that spirit and character if we are to survive in this league.
"We had to defend well and all credit to the guys for keeping going right to the end."
Hamilton stretched their lead at the top of the table to seven points as Richard Offiong's first-half hat-trick saw off visitors Dunfermline 3-0, while nearest challengers Dundee had Milan Palenik sent off as they drew 1-1 at Livingston.
Third-placed St Johnstone were beaten 3-1 at fourth-placed Queen of the South, and Stirling are now only five points adrift of Morton at the foot of the table after their 1-0 home win over Partick.
