Sinnott: Battle is far from over

Sun 10 Feb, 05:30 PM

Port Vale boss Lee Sinnott felt his side belied their lowly status in League One to stun promotion-chasers Carlisle during their 1-1 draw. The visitors led through Joe Garner's 14th goal of the season but Vale hit back from the penalty spot after Peter Murphy manhandled Kyle Perry.

Paul Harsley made no mistake from the spot to thrill Sinnott.

"We are improving and I was very pleased with the performance," said Sinnott. "Carlisle are going for promotion, but no-one would have guessed they were third and we were struggling.

"I thought we unfortunate not to win. I said to the players before the game that if we do go down, we must do so kicking and screaming. They rallied to the cause and we want more of the same.

"There are still a lot of points to play for and anything is possible if we can keep giving that sort of effort and continue to improve. One swallow doesn't make a summer, but the battle it is far from over."
