BAYERN MUNICH 1 WERDER BREMEN 1

Werder were rewarded for a fearless approach as they clinched a draw that kept them within three points of the leaders.

Thomas Schaaf's side dominated early on and took the lead when Diego danced through the defence to convert a Markus Rosenberg pass in the sixth minute.

Bayern's Italian striker Luca Toni won a penalty but then saw his weak shot saved before Ze Roberto combined well with Hamit Altintop to bag the equaliser.

BORUSSIA DORTMUND 2 SCHALKE 04 3

Schalke climbed to third thanks to a derby victory to savour, after their defeat in this fixture last season effectively cost them the title.

Halil Altintop set up Gerald Asamoah to put Schalke ahead in the 19th minute but a lapse in concentration allowed Giovanni Federico in for an equaliser almost immediately.

Schalke went ahead again thanks to an own goal from Martin Amedick in the 31st minute only for Dortmund to hit back again through Mladen Petric, with a header from an Alexander Frei cross, five minutes after the break.

Dortmund were down to 10 when Dede was sent off for a bad foul on Ivan Rakitic in the 76th minute and six minutes later Fabian Ernst took a pass from Asamoah and shot left-footed to give Schalke the points.

Saturday:

NUREMBERG 1 HANSA ROSTOCK 1

Czech striker Jan Koller scored his first goal since returning to the Bundesliga during the recent transfer window but it was not enough to get Nuremberg back in the winning habit.

Koller headed in a cross from Jan Kristiansen in the 19th minute to give his new team the lead but Christian Rahn equalised with a cool chip over the keeper.

BAYER LEVERKUSEN 1 HAMBURG SV 1

Manuel Freidrich atoned for a defensive error to score a fine equaliser and give Leverkusen a point from this rather tame clash between two teams with title hopes.

Hamburg were second best for most of the first half but they moved ahead when Piotr Trochowski sent over an aimless cross, Friedrich failed to clear and Rafael van der Vaart nipped in to score his 10th goal of the season.

Leverkusen equalised with an hour gone when Friedrich's powerful header from a Tranquillo Barnetta corner beat Frank Rost.

HANOVER 96 2 KARLSRUHE 2

Karlsruhe picked up a point from an entertaining tussle to stay on course for a European place next season.

Hanover had taken the lead at the end of the first half through Hanno Balitsch but a nicely worked move down the right led to Josh Kennedy's equaliser and in the 64th minute Tamas Hajnal drilled home to put the visitors ahead.

Hanover got back level through Jan Rosenthal and they had what looked to be a legitimate winner ruled out in added time when the referee found Mike Hanke guilty of a foul as he headed against the bar, off the keeper's back and in.

VfB STUTTGART 1 HERTHA BERLIN 3

Stuttgart's season as defending champions sank to a new low as they were soundly beaten by a Hertha side who had been suffering something of a crisis themselves.

Marko Pantelic threaded in the opening goal in the seventh minute and the Serb striker restored the Hertha lead at the end of the first half, after Mario Gomez had headed an equaliser.

Raffael, Hertha's new Brazilian signing, blasted into the top of the net for 3-1 four minutes after the break and Stuttgart's day went from bad to worse when Matthieu Delpierre got a second yellow card nine minutes from time.

VfL BOCHUM 3 ENERGIE COTTBUS 3

Cottbus came from two goals down in the second half to claim a point that was not enough to take them out of the relegation zone.

Bochum, themselves facing relegation worries, moved ahead for the first time in the seventh minute when a misplaced header from Cottbus defender Kristijan Ipsa flew past his own keeper at the far post.

Stanislav Sestak made it 2-0 before Michal Papadopulos gave his side hope at the end of the first half.

Bochum restored their two-goal lead when Benjamin Auer tapped in at the far post in the 68th minute but a dreadful piece of defending allowed Ervin Skela to help himself almost immediately and 10 minutes later Cottbus equalised as Branko Jelic lashed home.

VfL WOLFSBURG 2 MSV DUISBURG 1

Wolfsburg made it a second narrow win from two games since the long break, results that have taken them clear of the relegation zone and into the top half of the table.

They fell behind when Claudiu Niculescu controlled nicely before beating the keeper with a perfect strike.

Marcel Schaefer got them level nine minutes before the break and Grafite finished off a sweeping attacking move for the winner eight minutes after the restart.
