Robins swoop for City defender

Mon 10 Mar, 05:45 PM

Bristol City manager Gary Johnson has allowed defender Richard Keogh to join League One strugglers Cheltenham on an initial month's loan. The 21-year-old becomes the third City player to make the temporary switch to Whaddon Road, where midfielder Alex Russell and striker Steve Brooker are also on loan.

"Richard has not been getting many games here in the first-team and he is not in the first-team thoughts for whatever reason," City manager Gary Johnson told the club's official website.

"Richard needs to be playing games and he has already turned down a few loan moves that he didn't fancy.

"But (Cheltenham manager) Keith Downing rang me this morning to ask about Richard because he is having problems with defenders. I asked Richard and this in one which he fancies.

"I think he has realised that he needs to play for his own sanity. You can't train all week and not play games. We wish him well and hopefully he can help Cheltenham stay out of trouble."
