Bundesliga - Schweinsteiger: Van Gaal deserves win
Bayern Munich midfielder Bastien Schweinsteiger has demanded his side beat Hamburg at the weekend in tribute to outgoing coach Louis van Gaal.
After a disappointing season outspoken Dutchman Van Gaal will leave Bayern, his no-nonsense man-management style having been blamed for a lack of confidence among his players.
But Bayern, who lie fifth and five points behind the third Champions League place, need to win as many games as possible if they are to qualify for Europe’s premier club competition.
"We all want to be successful in the remaining weeks and to give him a fitting send-off," Schweinsteiger said. "He has deserved it after the way we played last season when we won a lot.
"It is sad that we have not been getting the results recently and we are just going to have to make an extra effort since we need the points.
"I think it is a shame (that he is leaving) because I think that he fits in at Bayern. We are going to have to do all we can to win on Saturday.
"Nobody wants to play in the Europa League."
