Iron stopper earns Ireland call-up

Scunthorpe goalkeeper Joe Murphy has been named in Giovanni Trapattoni's first 40-man Republic of Ireland training squad.Murphy is one of six goalkeepers called into a preliminary squad ahead of the Italian coach's first game in charge against Serbia on May 24.

Assistant coach Liam Brady said: "A preliminary squad of 40 players has been selected, with the the help of Don Givens, for May's training camp and the following two international friendlies against Serbia and Columbia on May 24 and May 29.

"We will be outlining the programme to these 40 players in the next few days and that squad will be reduced to 28 in early May."
