Fiorentina progressed 3-1 on aggregate with Mutu, who scored in the first leg, putting the Serie A side ahead by firing in a free-kick from 25 yards seven minutes before halftime.

Mutu settled the match early in the second half when he netted a rebound after goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes failed to control a shot from Giampaolo Pazzini.

"This was a great achievement but Mutu and Pazzini made the difference tonight," Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli said.

"Our attitude was very positive and that was the difference compared to the match in Florence."

PSV, without injured playmaker Ibrahim Afellay, squandered chances to get back into the tie.

Danko Lazovic and Danny Koevermans missed from close range and Sebastien Frey saved a Timmy Simons penalty nine minutes from time.

Fiorentina will face Rangers in the last four after the Glasgow club won the second leg of their quarter-final 2-0 against Sporting Lisbon.
