Championship - Wolves down sorry Saints

Eurosport - Fri, 10 Apr 17:11:00 2009

Wolves extended their lead at the top of the Championship with a comfortable 3-0 win over struggling Southampton at a rain-sodden Molineux.

FOOTBALL 2008-2009 Championship Wolves players mob David Jones - 0

Sam Vokes, Jody Craddock and David Jones were on target within the opening 19 mintues as Wolves took a big step towards sealing automatic promotion.

Victory saw the leaders move five points clear of second-placed Birmingham, who play at Charlton on Saturday.

Wales international Vokes, in the side in the absence of the injured Sylvain Ebanks-Blake and Chris Iwelumo, headed the hosts into the lead from a corner after just 39 seconds.

Skipper Craddock then made it two in the sixth minute, again with a header, only this time the chance came from a short-corner.

It got even worse for the visitors in the 19th minute when David Edwards was upended in the box by a poor Marek Saganowski challenge.

Jones stepped up to blast the resulting penalty kick past Kelvin Davis and effectively seal all three points before even 20 minutes were on the clock.

Southampton remain second-bottom of the table, two points adrift of safety.

  2. Its interesting looking at the comments, Patriciajlf is a Spurs fan, Rock and Roll, just an idiot not a fan thats Spurs or anybody could be proud off. Ive been a Saints fan all my life, got loads of mates that are Pompey Fans and mates that are Spurs fans, there will always be "brain deads" in every walk of life, feel sorry for him, must be hard being that dim! Take a leaf from Rugby, can you see Rock n Roll being allowed in any Rugby Club?

  3. I would like to say that this dock strike myth is wrong.
Southampton was the only major port to support the miners strike.
Southampton Itchen was the only labour seat south of London during the Thatcher reign.
Portsmouth is a naval dockyard, not merchant and never supported anything in the rights of the working class, only themselves

  4. Pathetic - but you can't expect boys to do a mans job(especially with all the other problems at the club.) Good luck against Crystal Palace.

  13. United!!:
Any sport you care to name. All life in the US is inundated (your word). I worked there for 2 years.
Secondly, no confusion or hypocrisy (How so - hypocrisy is criticising somebody for something you do yourself - What?) As to not docking the points; that is going to invite multiple law suits. Docking them invites only one, from Southampton. Therefore less legal actions. Clear?

    From ftumch2001, on Sat 11 Apr 9:54AM
  14. Uh, good job Wolves, but ftumch2001's comment confuses me. Number one, what aspect of US sports are you actually suggesting is hopelessly inundated with lawyers? Secondly, do you realize that you just called for lawyers to be KEPT AWAY from football, while simultaneously asking for a points penalty (a scenario which clearly calls for many lawyers, multiple hearings, appeals, etc. AD NAUSEUM)? This, clearly, is confusion or hypocrisy on your part.

At any rate, as I said, great job Wolves! You're almost there, and I'll be honored to have United play you next year! COME ON!!

From United!!, on Sat 11 Apr 7:25AM
  15. All acedemic now. Dock them 10 points next season for trying to flout the rules and bringing the game into disrepute. Lawyers have no place in football. This isn't the US.

  20. I am a Spurs fan and would like to say fans like ROCK AND ROLL we could certainly do without as he or she is the epitome of what is wrong in football. Football is supposed to be a sport played by sportsmen and supported by fans who enjoy the game and do not spew out idiotic insults which show him for what he obviously is and definately someone Spurs should be ashamed of. I apologize on his behalf.
