Diaz stops Daley in thriller

Nick Diaz won his 10th bout in a row with an exciting first-round TKO of Briton Paul Daley in the main Strikeforce event on Saturday night in San Diego.

The outspoken American defended his Strikeforce welterweight belt after referee John McCarthy stopped the fight at four minutes and 57 seconds, with Daley pinned down as the blows rained down.

Daley, from Nottingham, had stunned Diaz with a series of strikes and body-kicks that left his opponent reeling in the early seconds.

But Diaz fought back, pinning Daley to the cage and fighting off a failed takedown.

Daley thought he had seized the initiative after dropping Diaz with a left hook but the American managed to floor Daley before pinning him down and finishing him off.

The future of Daley is now uncertain: he was kicked out of UFC for punching Josh Koscheck after the bell and, since Strikeforce was taken over by UFC president Dana White’s company, he may struggle to get fight deals.

Diaz, meanwhile, was non-committal about his next opponent, saying "I don't know. We've got to see what's up".

  1. Wish the olympics or some event would hold an mma event for ufc and bellator also strikeforce etc and put the best fighters in all 1 event to see whose the best fighter not the companies best fighter. Because mma is just money generated which is a shame because you don't see the full fighter potential a bit sad really.
