Penney ready for Dale challenge

Sat 10 May, 01:30 PM

Darlington manager Dave Penney is hoping the pressure that accompanies reaching the play-offs will bring the best out of his players. The Quakers host Rochdale in their League Two semi-final first-leg on Saturday evening after failing to secure an auotmatic promotion spot following a crippling injury crisis.

But with the likes of Julian Joachim, Stephen Foster and Tommy Wright all set to return against Dale, Penney is confident of gaining a positive result in front of a sizeable crowd at the Darlington Arena.

"I want the players to have some nerves because that will make them play better," said Penney, who has had former England manager Steve McClaren helping out in training this week.

"We have had a fairly relaxed week. The players have had a couple of days off and seem ready for the challenge.

"Rochdale are a good team away from home and we must make sure that we are switched on and don't get caught."
