Greenshields Commits To Dragons

Catalans Dragons on Saturday tied up full-back Clint Greenshields for another three years and revealed they are within days of announcing their new coach.

The 26-year-old Greenshields has not missed a Super League game since joining the Perpignan club from St George Illawarra 18 months ago and has carved out a fine reputation as a freescoring full-back with 19 tries in 40 appearances.

The announcement ends speculation that he would follow coach Mick Potter out of the Gilbert Brutus Stadium when his current contract runs out at the end of the season and is a timely boost ahead of Sunday's Carnegie Challenge Cup fifth-round tie at Bradford.

"I'm delighted to extend my contract for three more years," said Greenshields, who has been coached by Potter for the last five years in both Sydney and Perpignan.

"I'm very happy here. The club has grown every day since my arrival and I want to be a part of this adventure."

Potter, who is leaving the club in October to succeed Daniel Anderson at St Helens, said: "It's fantastic for the club.

"Clint is one of the best Super League full-backs. He is the third player to extend his contract and others should follow him in the weeks to come."

The Catalans are also close to securing a replacement for Potter, with a candidate almost certain to come from Australia.

General manager Christophe Levy said: "We are proud to have gained the confidence of Clint and to keep a player of his calibre for three more years.

"It's great news for the club and I think we'll be able to announce the name of the new coach in the next days."
