Egypt and Zamalek striker Amr Zaki is set to sign for Wigan Athletic, according to reports in his homeland.
Zaki top-scored for the Pharaohs in their successful defence of the African Cup of Nations in February, and he was watched by Latics boss Steve Bruce during Zamalek's 5-1 thrashing of Egyptian Premier League side Aluminium at the Cairo International Stadium last week.
"We had a meeting with Bruce and we agreed a deal in principle," Zamalek board member Sabri Abou-Hallam told FilGoal. "We discussed all the details but we haven't agreed a transfer fee."
Zamalek are believed to want an Egyptian record £6 million for the former ENPPI hit-man, who had a failed spell with Lokomotiv Moscow two years ago, whereas Wigan are understood to want to spend in the region of £4 million for the strapping forward.
Abou-Allam then added that Wigan officials will arrive in Cairo to finalise the deal on May 26.
Zamalek chairman Mamdouh Abbas insisted that the club is yet to receive a genuine offer from Wigan, but claimed that other European sides had formalised bids for the 25-year-old.
"We have offers from France and Portugal for Amr, but we did not talk to Wigan until now," the Zamalek president told Modern Sport.
Zaki has been asking for a move back to Europe since returning from Russia last season, but his club rejected a bid in the region of £2 million from Sheffield United, who were relegated months afterwards.
Bruce was on a scouting mission in Africa, looking to add to his squad after securing the Greater Manchester side's Premier League status for a fourth consecutive season.
