Premier League - Managers: No Ronaldo problem

Eurosport - Sun, 10 May 21:04:00 2009

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson played down Cristiano Ronaldo's angry reaction to being substituted during the 2-0 Premier League win over Manchester City.

FOOTBALL 2008-2009 Premier League Manchester United Man United-Man City Cristiano Ronaldo talks to Sir Alex Ferguson after being substituted at half-time during the 2-0 win over Manchester City - 0

Manchester United 2-0 Manchester City

Sir Alex Ferguson: "It is great that he wanted to play on. It is fabulous. But I have to look at the big picture. He produced an incredible performance against Arsenal on Tuesday. He ran his socks off. Now I have Wednesday and Saturday to look after. There is no problem."

"If (Carlos Tevez) keeps scoring there will be absolutely no problem. Nothing has changed (regarding his contract).

Mark Hughes: "I am disappointed with the award of a free-kick for the first goal. I thought Stevie had won the ball. The free-kick gets a little deflection off Nigel de Jong but it was still a good strike, so you have to give (Ronaldo) credit.

"We are thinking we can still get something out of the game but get caught out on a long ball. (Dimitar) Berbatov shows good control and he sets up Tevez. It was an outstanding strike for the second one. We felt hard done by as it was not a fair reflection on the game."

Arsenal 1-4 Chelsea

Arsene Wenger: "We live in a league now where the divers are rewarded. It's not right but it's like that You could be very positive or very negative but I don't believe it was a bad performance. It was never a 4-1 game we should have been 2-0 up before they had a shot.

"We only had a small opportunity to come third and a few months ago everybody thought we would be 10th. So I don't think we should be too disappointed (with finishing fourth) but what is disappointing is that in the games that have mattered in the last three or four weeks we couldn't win."

Guus Hiddink: "I was very proud of the reaction of the team. Everyone knows after Wednesday that it's very difficult to make it happen. I think the team reacted perfectly except for the first 15 minutes. It shows that this team is one of strongest in Europe.

There's a big gap between us and (fourth-placed) Arsenal but we keep on going in the two games coming up.

  2. When I was younger and played the game, even though I wasn't very good, I hated being subbed. Why shouldn't Ronaldo feel frustrated and disappointed at the same. Maybe he was angry with himself? Maybe he wanted to stay on longer? He's an exceptional player who wants to play. Rooney is the same. He dislikes being taken off just as much. I'm not bothered about Ronaldo being upset at being substituted, it merely displayed his level of commitment to the cause. Once back in the dressing room, I'm sure that Fergie let him know what's what and he'll come out all guns blazing on Wednesday. If I'm wrong, and I am from time to time, then Fergie will also remind him that no one player, not even the FIFA World player of the year, is bigger then the club.

  3. Whatever bro give the kid a break because he is a world class player doesnt mean he is mature enough to understand football itself.Ronald, fergie doesnt substitute you as often as he does Rooney. He wanted to rest you for the netx important game.Thats modern football man and Fergie is more experienced that you boy, call Becks and ask him.

  4. C.Ronaldo is the best Manchester United has gotten, but then, there are players who could be better but always sits on the bench. I love Ronaldo, just as every real Man U fan, but i was quite dissappointed with him yesterday.I've seen other players show their disaccord with the coach substituting them. Thats unfair and disrespectful. Rooney didnt start the match(as i know he would have wanted to), Nana didnt play (he ofcourse would have loved to play) and many others. But then, i admire the way Fergie took all that. He knows his players more than we do.
And for those who think Ronaldo is still in Man U for money, get it into you that Real Madrid would pay Ronaldo more than Man U. But who would like to go to a club that ceaselessly takes 3;0 home?
Manchester U has got more important matches and we need, not just Ronaldo but all players in their best.

  7. nicandmart1, u forgot liverpool beat manu without gerard and torres at anfield. Yes, the need more world class players to dominate. (Remember they seemingly did not have a good team in 2005, and still won the CL). This season they lead head to head amongst the big four. This should tell you something. Either Torres 7 Gerard are the 2 best players in the epl or the rest are as good as

OUT OF TOPIC: Lastnite I saw Blatter watching a La Liga match i.e Barca Vs Villareal. Can someone tell me if this gentledad has ever taken his time to go and watch any EPL match. What does he wanna show?Did he use FIFA's money or his pocket money? If the first then I will like to use this forum to tell him that without bias, let him come also to Africa and watch some premier matches in Cameroon. There he will see the type of OVREBO we hhave here and the type of pitch our lads play here.FIFA is for the world and not Spain alone

  9. Let's hope CR pent out his frustration against the opposition in his next game. It would be more prolific and beneficial. But if he keeps acting like that then his days with SAF must be numbered no matter is he is the best football player on thge planet.

  10. Ronaldo want to win the world best again !! that is selfishness, he want to score all the goals, he can move to anywhere he choosed to, United have got the quality players but on bench, who knows, NANI might turn out to be another Ronaldo, what about macheda. Ronaldo can go, i hate him for what he did yesterday !!

From obilicash, on Mon 11 May 9:04AM
  11. Ronaldo thinks he is too big to be playing for Man U, pride is not good !!! it will destroy his future, if no one cautions him !!

From obilicash, on Mon 11 May 9:01AM
  12. i am a united fan, but i must confess that Ronaldo is selfish !!! what about wayne ronney who started on bench? did he think he is better than ronney, let me tell you guys that without the support of all the man u players, Ronaldo could have been nobody !! let him go to real madrid and and start collecting 3:0 defeat with others !!

  13. Prolific,
Out of respect to the legend? Gimme a break!!!! Do you think anything goes in Ronaldo's mind other than himself....If he would have had respect for the team, then he wouldnt have left the way he did, all by himself after the final whistle....One can understand his reaction when he was substituted....At that time, we can say his adrenaline was running high, and thats y he got frustrated....But he had more than half an hour to cool himself down....so much for a team player.

  15. Why do you guys keep saying that 'No Ronaldo Man U is nothing'... I think 'No GK and the team will lose'.. Come on.. in case that Ronaldo injured.. Man U will keep winning and that I can assure you... God damn! Yesterday Tevez head on the post not the ball! I hope the impact manipulated his brain so that he'll stay in United till the end of his football career.. LONG LIVE MANCHESTER UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB! GLORY GLORY MAN UTD!

  17. By the way, Ronaldo shaking hands with Hughesie was mere respect for a Man U legend. I don't think for a moment he would consider playing for a non champions league team. Players of Ronaldo's quality are looking to get better, not go backwards. Only 1 thing would make him move from MUFC. £££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££ £££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££ £££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££ £££££££££

  18. Melony A, why would Tevez want to play for far inferior teams in this country when there are teams nearly as good as MUFC on the continent. But as we all know, money talks!!!!!?

From prolific, on Mon 11 May 7:31AM
  19. Tevez should more to either Arsenal or Chelsea....Arsenal are more desperate I guess....But all such moves are going to be made complicated due to ManCity trying to hijack them....Lets see what happens....BTW I JUST LOVED THE WAY RONALDO WALKED OUT OF THE PITCH SHAKING HANDS WITH MARK HUGHES.... :-) Something developing on that front?

From Melony A, on Mon 11 May 6:10AM
  20. Hope now all Berbatov haters saw his skills - how he stopped the ball and granted it to Tevez to make the 2nd goal. How he passed around Dunn. Yes he is a bit slower than the other Man U players but he is thinking twice faster that them - be sure. You need to read the game and not only to run fast both directions. So - SAF bought him for those skills and don't intend to change his style of play. If all you remember - when Berba joined Tottenham - his first season was similar story - but everything comes to its place in the 2nd. Be patient and we'll see. Glory Man UTD!!!
