Megson keen to strengthen

Sun, 10 May 11:47:12 2009

Bolton manager Gary Megson pledged to bring in some new faces to make a stronger challenge next season after a goalless draw at home to Sunderland.

Mathematically, Wanderers are not safe either. However, with 40 points to their name, they will almost certainly be playing top-flight football again next season.

"We need to add flair and punch," he said. "We`ve only used 18 players this season, one of whom (Kevin Nolan) was sold in January.

"We will do our best with the finances available because we must have more numbers to choose from."

  2. Its time to get behind the current set up, over the last 18 months GM has managed to keep us in the Prem, on balance we try and play more football than we did for the final 12 months SA was in charge.
The fans are Bolton's biggest asset,I dont want to go into next season with the moaning and groaning about the 2nd Leg Sporting Lisbon tie or how we played at Wigan the following Sunday still rumbling on, it was a bad decision by GM but lets get over it and try and attract new quality players to a united cause.
Cahill, Davies (Mark) look great buys, Elmander has been a disappointment but I think will get better next season , he isnt as bad Makula(I cant spell and he cant play football).
A creative midfielder is a must, another right back wouldnt be bad either, Steinnson is alright attacking , but why doesnt he get within 6 feet of an opponent when they are crossing, unbelievable.
Thanks for the highlights of Hull, Boro, and Sunderland away wins, at least 2 of those will be Championship clubs next year, and at home the Spurs and Boro games are the highlight of a transitional season.
Keep the faith, we are great premiership club who has to be 100% together to succeed, a final word for GM we have had a taste of Europe and like it, inspire us, inspire the team and should you ever get another chance to manage us in a quarter final of a cup competition go for it, dont hold back.

  3. Don't be too @#$% the current set up remember we have lost just twice in the last seven games and those lost games were the 4-3 away at Chelsea and 1-0 away at Portsmouth. We seem to have slipped into "can't score" mode, too many 0-0 draws. I like Elmander he has two good feet a good head and good touch but he is not a battering ram centre forward like Kevin Davis, Wyn Davis or Nat. What we need to do is to improve the quality in mid field so we can afford to play 4-4-2 so Elmander can hang off a big centre forward . Currently we have to play 4-5-1 in order to survive and that does not give Elmander a role. We need to take control of midfield with a 4-4-2 lineup.

  4. Does Megson know what is needed??? The quality of football is simply not there.
Why Kevin Davies has to spend so much time out on the right is beyond most of us.
Why we refuse to shoot at goal is also beyond us. Well perhaps after watching the shooting in during the warm up it because they cann't hit the side of a barn. The stats show we had 1 shot at goal. and 37% possesion . We were at home against a poor team made to look average. There is no pace, no thought, no playmaker, no moves, no goal-poacher, no confidence. This is down to the manager. The players brought in by Megson are not good enough with the exception of Gary Cahill. His backroom staff are not premier quality. Fred Barber still can't get Jussi to boss the box and come for crosses. We need a sort out now and quality players brought in now, to have the summer to settle in. I am afraid that this will not happen. We have survide another season in the Premier. Garside is grateful that the money will be rolling in from the league and Sky again For Godsake man is that all you want?? Live within your means by all means. But dont forget the fans.We would like to enjoy our football.

  5. He says this every transfer window.....i wish he would stick to his words and actually go for some top players and BUY THEM!!! But i like megson tho, he reminds me a lot of the allerdyce era......and he wants just what us fans want...THE OLD BOLTON!

I just hope we can make some top transfers this next season and then actually go for uefa spot or whatever!
