Ward keen to fight for place

Tue 10 Jun, 01:45 PM

Wolves defender Darren Ward is determined to prove he has a future at Molineux despite being transfer listed by manager Mick McCarthy.Ward held talks with McCarthy at the end of last season where the 29-year-old centre-back was told he was not needed at the club.

But despite his snub Ward remains determined to stay and fight for his place in the team.

Ward told the Express and Star: "I was disappointed that the conversation I had with the manager became a transfer list situation, but I don't necessarily want to leave because Wolves is a great club.

"I am 29, not yet near my best. If Wolves want me to stay I will. I think I made the most appearances of our centre halves last season.

"If I get another chance I will be the best again. If the manager wants to change things, that is his decision. I have no problem with trying to get back in because I love the club."
