2008 MotoGP rookie Jorge Lorenzo undergoes successful skin graft on injured right hand - will leave hospital soon.
Fiat Yamaha star Jorge Lorenzo will leave hospital within the next 24 hours after undergoing successful surgery on his injured right hand and further neurological checks in Barcelona on Monday.
The 21-year-old has undergone a skin graft on the fourth and fifth fingers of his right hand, injured during a 130km/h Friday practice accident.
Renowned hand specialist Dr Xavier Mir carried out the operation in the Dexeus Institute, using skin from Lorenzo's right wrist.
A final CAT scan also confirmed that the MotoGP rookie has fully recovered from concussion, although he still cannot entirely recall the moments immediately before the accident in the second free practice session of his home Catalan Grand Prix.
Dr Mir has recommended a further night under observation before a full week of complete rest.
Lorenzo, who still holds third in the riders' world championship despite missing Sunday's seventh round, is thus expected to be fit to return to action at the British Grand Prix on June 22.
