Schuster Denies Ronaldo Obsession

Tue 10 Jun, 10:09 AM

Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster has denied that the Spanish giants are "obsessed" by Cristiano Ronaldo after their persistent pursuit of the winger saw them reported to FIFA by Manchester United.

United have lodged an official complaint with world football's governing body, having warned the Spanish giants in a statement released on May 27 that they would consider reporting them unless they ended their public campaign to take the winger to the Bernabeu.

But speculation surrounding the Portugal international's future has since heightened, rather than subsided.

And in the wake of United lodging their complaint, Schuster has told the Spanish press that he will not let the Ronaldo issue overshadow his preparations for next season.

"This Cristiano matter does not worry me nor am I obsessed by it," he told Spanish newspaper Marca.

"While he doesn't play for Madrid all we can do is hope, although it's clear that he would be a great signing and would adapt well to our squad."

FIFA's regulations say one club has to inform another if they are to start negotiations with one of their players, although they do not stipulate any possible sanction.
