Sussex Move Quickly For Smith

Wed 11 Jun, 12:09 AM

Sussex have signed West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Smith for their Twenty20 Cup campaign following an injury to Mushtaq Ahmed.

Star leg-spinner Mushtaq has been ruled out for the duration of the Twenty20 group programme after tearing a knee ligament in training.

Mushtaq underwent surgery on the same knee earlier in the season but the injury is not related, and he is expected to return when the LV County Championship resumes next month.

Sussex professional cricket manager Mark Robinson said: "Obviously we are excited to have Dwain join us.

"We've had to move quickly on this following injury to Mushy and at a day's notice I feel very lucky to have gained such a high-quality player."

Smith, who has played 10 Tests and 71 one-day internationals, joins the club following a stint in the Indian Premier League with Mumbai Indians.
