Lee Hendrie has been banned for four matches and fined £3,500 for verbally abusing referee Mike Dean at the end of last month's Championship play-off final.

The Blades midfielder admitted a charge of improper conduct relating to "his language and behaviour" towards Dean when given his marching orders after the final whistle at Wembley where Burnley triumphed 1-0.

The FA added an extra match to his suspension at a hearing this week and the 32-year-old will now miss the first four matches of the 2009/10 season.

  3. He should have been gracious in defeat . Burnley beat us fair and square and the referee was not an issue, despite all the media hype re Blackwell. I don't rate him at all. I wish they had banned him for the complete season, then we could have sold him to a smaller club like SWFC or Leeds,

  4. Why would a Senior Player of Hendrie's stature, an ex Midlands Premier Leaguer, ever think of accosting the FA appointed referee, unless he felt that there was some clearly justifiable reason for his outburst ? Especially in the full knowledge of the FA bias against Sheffield United Football Club, as clearly illustrated by the ' illegel London Tevez affaire' .
