Reading director of football Nick Hammond has confirmed that new manager Brendan Rodgers will have to sell before he can buy this summer.
Rodgers left Watford to take over at the Madejski Stadium and may have been looking forward to escaping the cash-strapped Hornets, but he will still have to watch the bottom line at his new club.
Kevin Doyle (pictured) and Stephen Hunt are both expected to leave to return to the Premier League this summer, with Hunt having already expressed his desire to move on, and Hammond insists Rodgers is fully aware of the situation, saying: "It is right to say players will have to be sold."
He added: "The manager is aware of the situation he has come into. If we want to buy players this summer there will have to be trading take place. There is no doubt about that."

madjeski just wants the cash in his pocket dont think he wanted the royals to go back up
You can't blame the man for not putting any more money into Reading, it must have cost him millions over the years since John Madjeski took over when Reading were at rock bottom and nearly being bought by the late Robert Maxwell and nearly joined with Oxford. Now it is up to the directors of the club to try to make Reading stand on their own feet and not have Sir John Madjeski prop them up. So selling Doyle and Hunt will help Reading to buy good young players who don't mind playing in the Championship with hopes of playing in the Premiership one day, maybe after next season, who knows. So give the man a break, he has paid enough, money doesn't grow on tree's you know and I expect he has lost a lot of money during this reccesion.
sell sell madjeski wants some more in his bank!! he hasnt spent any money for the last 3 years just sold sold sold pocketing the money. no ambition at all he is just selling every asset before he sells the club.he has no interest in promotion ever again.he thinks all us fans are stupid
To Scot H... Mighty Wolves? What planet have you been living on for the last twenty or so years?
The only team who - in my opinion - will not be involved in a relegation dogfight next season out of the three going up will be Burnley.
Hull, Wolves, Birmingham, Stoke and Sunderland will all be in the mix, with Hull Wolves and Stoke all going down.
Good to see Wolves in the top flight, but be realistic - not exactly as mighty now as they were in the late 1970s - it was not that long ago that they were bankrupt and languishing near the foot of the old fourth division. Not so mighty then were they?
doyle will be good in tottpenham
Doyle can come to the mighty Wolves
