British number one Anne Keothavong held her nerve to take a 6-2 6-2 win over Sweden's Sofia Arvidsson and reach the second round of the Edgbaston Classic.
Keothavong, preparing for her home Grand Slam Wimbledon, faced a total of 10 break points but conceded only one as she sealed victory in exactly an hour in Birmingham.
"I was a little bit nervous at the start as it was my first match on grass, so it took me a while to get into it," Keothavong said.
She will next face Sania Mirza of India, who beat Belarusian Tatiana Poutchek 6-1 6-2.
Britons Melanie South, Elena Baltacha and Naomi Cavaday are also through to the second round at the Edgbaston Prior Club.
